So.... today I picked up a 57 F100 short bed to grab a few parts off and then part out. I go to the guy's shop pay him the cash, get my bill of sale and load it up on my trailer. On the way back to my place my buddy and I stop for dinner at the 99 (free plug lol) I'm sitting in the 99 when a guy comes into the bar looking for the owner of the blue dodge with the F100 on the trailer. This guy tells me the truck is his and he bought it from the owner and the owner had been storing it for him the past year or so. He tells me he has a bill of sale and has been in constant contact with him. Now I have no doubt this guy is telling the truth. Anyone else have this happen before? I could give a crap less about the truck I just want my money back and the bench seat.

I assume you turned right around and went back to the shop with the other owner to discuss it with the seller

What do you call a story with no ending? A Mystery... where is the part about guns and knuckles and firetrucks and the drinks afterwards?

Those storage stories can get out of hand sometimes. A buddy of mine sold a 55 chevy suburban to a guy and it has been 6 years without no contact.

Nothing as of right now cause the seller's shop is closed and this all went down a few hours ago. He is an old timer and a member of a local well known car club.He has a good reputation and also a number of nice cars. I will be calling him first thing in the morning

I would show up with the guy that said it was his. If the guy is willing to go then he is most likely telling the truth. And it would put the seller on the spot.

In Connecticut on cars older than 25yrs old now title is needed just a bill of sale. The gentlemen claiming to be the owner of the truck owns and operates a local landscaping company. He is also well known and has a good reputation. I did tell him the seller did him a favor. He would be in way over 1K in his attempt to "street rod" this truck. This truck is far from a beginners project. It would be a large undertaking to say the least

Imagine what would have happened if you had just gone straight home and never run into that guy. Could have gotten in the middle of a real mess if you'd parted it out and the "owner" came looking for you.

Sounds like somebody's not on the up-and-up.

Hope it all works out well for everyone involved.

This has to be the dummest shit I have heard in along time!I don"t know how things are handled in Connecticut, but if somebody claims something that I own belongs to them we"re going to straighten it out right now,not wait until tommorrow and talk about how great a guy this dude is,like neither one of you have a phone no. or way to get ahold of seller, like I said,BULLSHIT

  19. Considering how those rot, that's rough and too bad to build, in CT?? Wow.

Probably the "owner" has been letting it sit there for ages and hasn't paid anything toward storage, but it's unusual for someone to sell again when the buyer's kept in touch. Have to think the truth is somewhere in between what's actually been told to you.

  20. This is some weird shit! I would tell the guy,all I want is the bench seat! haha!

Possession is 9/10ths. The problem lies with the seller, does he have ownership and ability to sell to you? If so the previos owner has nothing.

    Something seems fishy.

Did he speak with a Nigerian accent and his English was a bit formal and odd? Did he offer to pay you back for the truck plus a little something extra you can mail back to him?

If so, I would be cautious.

Somethings off. Try and store it out of sight if you can. Might be a scam. Might just be an old-timer with a flexible memory of what his old truck used to look like too.

  26. "yup, thats my old truck alright! - 'cept mine was a dodge and it had more doors and wooden tray and..."

Hope it all works out for you Matt

  28. I gotta agree with brad chevy. I don't think I could have slept last night not knowing what the hell is up with this transaction. We're all waiting patiently here to find out the "real" story on this deal.:)

  29. I would have bought the guy a beer, then proceeded to take the truck to his place. And just to keep things on the up and up... I'd have given him the trailer too. Would have drawn the line at handing over the keys to the Dodge though. Unless he offered to give me a ride home.
    But that's just me....
