Hope this isn't something that was posted elsewhere on here, but I wouldn't know how to even search it out if it was. Have other pics from the Spring Carlisle event, but this one really caught my eye. Heard some comments like "Dumb paint job" But they were missing the WW II bomber theme being portrayed. I know it won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I really have to give a thumbs up for ingenuity. If others have pics of something I may have missed on this car, please share along with anything else you saw that was cool at the Spring event........ P.S. Engine is a 50 Olds 303 punched out to 324.
nice car, a lot of good work..... but I just don't get "theme cars"....doesn't matter what the theme is.
Actually it is a mixed message, the P-40 Warhawk Flying Tigers open mouth with the bomber nose art and "accessories".
Some bombers did use the shark mouth. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:B-25G_Mitchell,_AAF_TAC_Center,_Florida_-_040315-F-9999G-005.jpg I think that people DID notice the WW2 theme, and THAT'S why they said it had a dumb paint job.
Careful everyone, I think I hear the builder, designer and his painter/stylist running down the hall to slap each one of us for our indiscretions. Does enough air move through the louvered insert? Not my cup of warm piss but I can appreciate the work involved
if all the time and fab work was done in a tradditonal style that car would have been sick i bet ....to much going on ,on this ride ..
I know the guy actually, I've featured one of his cars in TRK, His name is Marty Ingrahm and he's an excellent builder. However, I don't like theme cars either so I p***ed on shooting this one. I'm sure he'll build something HAMB nazis will appreciate next time! Spike
Thanks Verbal, that was my main point. I can't see myself driving it either, but I can still appreciate the work. He did use a preferred rod drivetrain and extended the rocket theme of the Olds. Guess it still smacks of rat rod only cleaner with no rust........
I guess he had to run a hood with the shark thing, but an early Olds should never be hidden. From what I can see, that motor really looks done up good
Woosh, thanks for the last pic. Look at those header runners. It looks like there are siamesed runners on the center outlet? Nice workmanship.
I know 324 is the stock Olds 55 & 56 displacement, but the spec sheet on the windshield stated it to be a modified 303 from 1950...... If too many people are down on it, it would be easy to lose the rockets and repaint. Great build regardless................
AMEN! I think I would have appreciated the car a lot more painted a solid dark green or maroon without all the cutesy "bomb" things. Post WWII era TRADITIONAL car, parked under the wing of a real WWII or Korean vintage airplane, would give an even stronger "connection".
Cool theme. Nicely done. The only thing I would change is go to BLC headlights to keep the bomb shape going.
I've seen the car in person. It seems nicely built, cleverly done, and eye-catching but not my cup o' tea......the bomber theme fad, like most others, will be in for a while, then fade away, while simple unadorned traditional style hot rods will always be cool and in style. My $.02.
On second thought, I think hot rodding is all about individual self expression and if the owner likes his car, that's what counts.
I've seen the car several times in person - it is very well built . It's not "traditional" enough for some of you guys , but in the end , it's a damn nice ride ... I'd rock that sum-***** !
Well that's really the BIG QUESTION isn't it? If he built it to please everyone else, he may have failed. If he built it to please himself, good job and more power to him! It might be a bit too "themey" for my tastes, but some of the little details like the parklights and tailamps will stick with me.
I agree whole-heartedly... all these "he shoulda done this" or "I wouldn't have done that" statements are completely retarded. The owner did EXACTLY what he 'shoulda' done... he built the car the way HE wanted to. All these folks doing 'correct' cars are making new belly****ons of their own, and can't see the forest for the trees.
You wouldn't think of shooting it for a magazine feature but slam the folks that voice the same opinion?
