  3. YOU PUT MODERN RIMS ON THAT MERC AND YOU WILL NEED TO PUT IT BACK IN THE BODY SHOP!!!!!!! Get the hint?????

  4. Been hearing good things about Diamondbacks, which WW radial don't discolor over time?

Bob so I should not do California Smoothies? Oh. :)

  5. Don't get me started!!!!!!

  6. It would be more than a shame it would be criminal after all the work you have done to make it period correct:eek::D!

The picture with the doors on looks incredible! Your car is going to kick some major ass when done with wide whites and the Stude hubcaps;)

The ones that you clean regularly. Westley's is your friend!!!! :D I've had good luck with Cokers, but have heard bad stories and am on my first set of Coker radials now. (They were the right price.) Probably going with diamondbacks for my shoebox.

  8. When Ian talks, people listen. (who remembers that commercial...)

I guess I should order a set of white walls. I want the 3" wide whites as opposed to the narrower ones offered by Coker and BFG... Sound good? I figure the Merc is such a big car that wider whites would be a must... yah?

I usually like the 2 1/2" or 2 3/4" the best. I never really dug ultra wide whites. But its all personal preference.

  10. Only radials for me. I just browsed Rik Hoving's site and all the early mercs have big white walls... 3-4 inches. I'll go as big as I can get on a radial. Yeeaah bishes! lol.

  11. HAHA I wouldn't worry too much about what I have to say but I would be concerned about Bad Bob showing up in the middle of the night to express his concerns:D

  12. I think Bob drives his Merc everywhere, so for him to drive to Chicago he'd need about 12,000 quarts of oil. :)

I'm going to research the white wall tires today, anyone know what size radials is good for the car? 205's, 215's?

  14. That's what you have the Buick? Looks awesome.

  15. Hey John your merc is looking good. I really dig the color. For radial tires go with Diamond Backs they do not yellow or crack as bad as Cokers. Bill can make you just about any size and brand of tire with just about any size white wall you want. He once made me a set of 215/65/15 with almost a full white side wall.

Did you ask for the H.AM.B. discount?

  21. Sure did, got it, thanks again... Can't wait!!!!

  22. 4.26.10: This week the car will receive e-fans, the glass should be re-installed by the end of the week, and we will be waiting on the tires.

Items I need to sort out ASAP:

1953 Chrysler taillights: I need to get body-to-taillight gaskets.

Wheels/Tires. Paul wants me to replace the rims, as the current ones have been drilled for rim screws lol.

Hubcaps: I really need to find someone who can fix up a couple of mine... I can try myself but I'm super busy... ugh.

EDIT. I finally understand why we've had a disconnect on the side window weatherstripping. My quarter windows were mounted outside of the lip Matt. That's why we got confused. Okay, we still need to order a big roll of the weatherstripping for the fixed side windows.

Painting the wheels red would look killer on that Dark blue. I painted the wheels on my
Merc red and I could not believe the difference that it made.....Just something to think
about, don't want ya to get bored....LOL!!

Keep us posted, I'm enjoying the updates.

    Happy Trails,

    Mick

I second the red. Red would look so nice and classy on that car. Refer to the Rodder's Journal a couple issues back where an unchopped Merc wears a dark blue paint job with red wheels.

  26. Hmmmm dunno. I talked on another (local) board about painting the rims a bronze or copper color too. Paul and I aren't feeling red at the moment. What color were the rims on the 10 first chopped 49-51 mercs?

These are not the first ten.. but they are well knows early custom mercs with blue paint.. or at least a dark color.

Personally I like the dark color wheels the best on dark colored bodies. They give a nice contrasting line between the white wall and the hubcaps.

These look to be dark... black perhaps?

    Body color?

Red wheels on a Black body. And these hubcaps are about the same size as the once you will be using, leaving a "large" section of the wheel exposed. A lighter color will be very prominent. As it is here in the photo below.

  28. Definitely not feeling the red.

Body color I think is still the front runner, once I get a set of these Studebaker caps fixed up all you'd see is a little bit of the rim.
