Well this little affair started as a simple scuff and paint the dash, seat cover, headliner, and door panels to clean up the insides of my 47 chevy biz coupe.

Now it has turned into re do everything.... haha

painting the dash pearl white..okk everythings fine.. then we look at the guages brownn and tan.. not gonna match pearl white. so ordered a set of decals and having them remade at kinkos in black and white no big deal... then looked at the ****ty knobs gotta buy new ones... ohhh look at the steering wheel ...how bout a re pop 50 chevy deluxe wheel that will look killer in there... hmmm how bout chrome the garnish mouldings ashtray set up and glove box door !$$$$$$$$$ chrome guy called in the middle of this to give me the price so i figured might as well go all out now...

so heres how an easy job started into the money pit i will be in by the end of this thread.

well here is how i started..scuffed the paint and was hoping the primer wouldnt react with the paint that was on there...of course it did.

well im balls deep now why not pull the dash out

couple of extra holes someone drilled in the past 60 odd years

and a crack from those 60 odd years of service

ready for some primer tomorrow..holes filled and the crack all tiged up

then i started lookin at the gauge housing and saw a shimmer of silver behind a tiny chip of paint low and behold polished aluminum behind that ugly turd brown

well if ya have a 47 chevy then thats a little trick to cl***ing the old girl up a little

well thats to where i am so far... everything for the interior is ordered just gotta wait for it to get here.. interior from ez boy. all the other misc stuff from chevs of the 40s..

Lookin' good! Is that special Rust o leum silver or the regular stuff you can buy at Lowes? Funny how every "little" project snowballs.

Yep, been there. Will turn out awesome in the end and so worth it. In my opinion the dash is extremely important as it is the one section of the car you as the driver spends the most time looking at. Good luck

Looks like Grande White Mocha with Whipped cream on top. Delicious!

I ripped my steering column out last night to get chromed. I'm going to need some help with the new gauges being placed in the dash. This is all good inspiration. Thanks Flop!

Looks good so far. Its like anything else, buy a new couch and the wife says that now the carpet looks like ****, then the new carpet clashes with the d****s...

grande carmel frapachino to answer the most important question of the day haha

    thanks everyone!!!

well the next step i had to get the gauge pod back in one piece so i can paint it because you have to fold the edge over on the back and that wouldnt be fun to do on a freshly painted piece.....

thats to my buddy sal that has most chevy parts i need in stock haha.. borrowed another guage pod off him so i could copy the letters that came off of my gl*** when i cleaned it up.

old with letters .mine is the clear one on the silver lid..

since the letters are painted on the back of the gl*** i taped both piece together lined up the edges then i had an instant template on where the letters go.. then i taped all the edges off so i would get a straight line accross

time to see how steady my hand is..

this is how it turned out sitting in the inlay where it belongs

    more progress tomorrow...

I've always found an appliance gloss white is best for instrument cases, taillamp housing etc. to take advantage of all the light. White is, after all, the reflection of the entire spectrum whereas Black is the absorbtion of the spectrum.

I have found white to be a bit brighter as well. Awesome job on the improvements. I understand the snowball effect, 3 months ago I was just going to swap an engine....then, the firewall holes needed plugged and painted and the gas tank needed help and the windshield didn't fit right and so on and so on....I still haven't installed the new engine yet :(

Looking good Flop. You sound like we did before the Roundup " Oh were just gonna clean up the interior a little, it should only take 2 or 3 days". A dozen or so coats of various mediums later, then some new door panels, now weve got to polish everything, we need some new knobs these old ones look like **** now etc.. etc..so now here we are alot of hours and a couple paychecks in the hole and were still not done yet !!
No wonder people say its a sickness!!
