My oldest son called while I have been viewing this whole thread. Wants to lower his daily ride....... Brought a tear to my eye i am so proud! Over here in Albama havent see too many real low riders but they are so freakin cool. Bags are a big thing here but my neck hair moves when I hear hydraulics! peace
Anyone have pics of a black or dark colored '67-69 Camaro on Astro's/Rocket's/Cragars? I beleive it was an Imperials car. I've only seen one photo many moons ago...been hunting to see it again for years.
I love that car. My dad had an old magazine with that car in it. I remember the wall behind the car was tagged "Imperials", & he was obviously flying a plaque. It's been about 20 years since I've seen that picture. I've wanted to do a 67 or 68 Camaro lowrider style ever since. I don't think a 69 would look right that style. I might be able to find the magazine. There were a few choice ones I saved over the years.
55, thats the one...the wall tagged with Imperials, yes. I always thought that was such an understated car that looked so right. Never seen another like it. I figured it was a '67, but I havent seen the picture in years. Would love to take a gander again.
That's the one lil E! I might have a color picture. I'll try to find the magazine. AAFD, it looks like a 67 Rally Sport with hideaway headlights. What do you think, 13's with 5.20's or 14x7's with 5.60's?

OG lil E, you are the man, thanks! '55 sounds about right, I'm betting 14's. Damn that car rules! Do you know how many Camaro nuts you'd piss off driving that thing around these days! I'd love to have a ranfla, but I'm a tall skinny white hillbilly...just wouldn't look right.
YES! Lots of people forget how important the early Low-Riders have been for the scene. Larry Watson painted a lot of early Low Riders, and from those the early 80's custom cars evolved. And then the revival of the Custom Car scene in the early 80's. So yes it is Hamb material.
I agree, Rik, they belong here. But... I personally never heard the term "lowrider" used before the introduction of Lowrider magazine in 1977. The Watson-type late models were simply referred to as mild customs (usually featuring wild paint and hydraulics) during their heyday in the mid-60's, a dozen years previously. They have come to be called "Bellflower" cars, although I never heard that term in the 60's either. I believe that the "lowrider" movement was inspired by the Watson (now known as Kustomland) movement. Typical lowriders are more ornate, sometimes feature murals and almost always have 13" wheels (which really sets them apart from any other style). I did my near-new '65 Bonneville in '66, inspired by my trips to the L.A. car shows and that scene. Pearl blue with skyblue flake top and crushed glass flake lightly sprayed over both.
Whats up Skoty! It was great meeting you in Ventura. Hopefully I'll be bringing both my Oldsmobiles(67 & 53) to Santa Maria this year. Hope to see you there.
Yeah it was good meeting you bro, i will definetly be at santa maria. Both of your cars look rad! See you then.
Great job on the Cutlass Eryk! Looking forward to seeing it in person at Santa Maria! EDIT: I just followed your link and read thru your thread, amazing! Thanks for documenting everything so well. I learned sooo much by just reading that thread, quite a few mysteries solved! Now, I need to get practicing on my Ranchero....
yeah i should have, that shot is from the '09 Lake Cruise and i have a folder of theat show, i'll take a look late today. Im skinny white too and dont mind draggin I have a shot of a dark candy red and a few green ones you might like, they might even be in the previous posts but at this point its hard to remember whats been posted and what not. i'll look at those ones too. Your 65 is what this thread is all about! Do you have anymore shots? PLEASE! I would love to add it to my Fotki page in a feature folder.
Chaco im sorry but couldnt find my folder w/ the '09 Cruise to the lake pics??? pretty weird as im sure i've saved all the pics in a folder.....might have it in my home pc thoug! AAFD, here are some 1st gen camaros from my stash. The green one w/out the graphics is my favorite, the Groupe one is very well done, and the whole green thing its pretty rad, but there are some details on the paint,(???they seem muralish?? mural-ish) that i really dont like, while on the other hand the scroll work on the red one looks just amazing! Oh what the hell!!!!! I love'em all! Enjoy. On a side note im pretty sure we have posted these b4.
Thanks for the kind words. Please post a link to that page if you add a folder of it. No more photos, I wish I did. Most people just didn't take large amounts of photos in those days. Here are a couple of my other cars, both done in 1966.
Thanx Tom, those are perfect and i'll add'em soon. I dont have a connection home so im uploadin stuff very slowly from dead times at work. If you ever find anymore lemme know. ^^^also anybodyelse w/ 60s or 70s shots^^^^ thanx a bunch!
