Finally got my '40 back on all fours. Lowering it turned into being a much bigger (and more expensive) job than I had expected. It has been fun getting to know straight axles. Most of my cars are from the from the 50's and 60's and their suspensions are alot different. I've got a few before and after photos to post. I love the new stance, what do you guys think?

Honestly, the car looks great in the before picture, so there would have been no shame in leaving it like that. However, the new stance looks great and definitely better in a side by side comparison!

I haven't even really gotten to drive it yet. I just got to pull it out in the drive long enough to stare and snap a photo.
The worst part about lowering it was having it off the road. I bought this car last Ocotober and have really enjoyed driving it.

    From Zero to Hero!!! :D

The Before looks like a typical Restored '40.
The After has the perfect Hot Rod '40 look.

    Glad you asked.
In the front I used a Magnum 4" I- beam drop axle, Posie super slide spring (w/ 2 removed), dropped steering arms, added sway bars and tube shocks. My front tires are 5.00/5.25's on a stock 16" wheel.
In the rear I used a Posie super slide spring with 5 leaves removed and tube shocks. Rear tires are 6.00 x 16's.

Very nice! Nothing makes a '40 better more than a killer stance!

  15. Dude! That looks bad***! I am normally not a fan of red on a vehicle but that car rules!

  16. Stance is everything, and you got it all now:D

You nailed the stance Dude! That makes or breaks a car. The front tire tucked under the front fender is perfect!

Looks great. I'm in the middle of the same deal w/ my 37. hope it looks as good when I'm done.

You really removed 5 leaved out of your posies rear spring? I was going to start with 3, guess I may have to rethink that.

I'd be interested to know if it settles any after you put a couple of hundred miles on it.

Wow, that looks fantastic! Lucky you. Did the tube shocks make any difference to the ride height?

I don't think so. I don't think they will make much difference to the ride either. ...not really sure why I bought them now that I think of it.

I removed the top 5 and used the top leaf from my front spring (almost flat) as a spacer under the rear ones.
I'll look but I think I took photos of the springs out and side by side so you can see the difference.

I have a '40 Tudor that needs to drop in the rear a bit, but 5 leaves!? Any tire interference? And by the way, the stance is just right!

    I second that remark....

I don't like red cars, but wouldn't bother driving that beauty!

just put a Superbell dropped I beam and Posie 'In da dirt' sping on the front of my 40, very dissapointed, maybe a 3 inch drop!! was it 2 of the smallest leaves you removed on the front? How much axle to ch***is clearance on the front do you have?
