More from Sled: Message: Here w go fellas, more stuff from the Baja CA tour...lots of abandoned trucks there, mostly 48/53 Chevys...obviously for the field use and agricultural environment. It has to be the most common brand, according to the big numbers of these still around..many still in use even in the big cities. The A roadster is sittin there for decades, tryin to rescue it.Body is stored inside a barn in the property, have been told.
Message from Sled: travelling around and you never know what comes up..ya know, talkin with locals, following hints, most of the times some disappointments of the rusted stuff, but hey...that has to be some cool shit hidden somewhere, the hunt thrill..ya know!!Lookin for the infamous 32 coupe hidden somewhere...hope and faith,it has to pay back!!
Message from Sled: Something for the VW fans too...found a guy that at 1 point owned up to 50 VW cars, picks, bugs, sambas and so on...yeah,im late cause he already sold the 21/23 window stuff...this is part of the last junk he owns, and its for sale too...if interested let me know Ah,the red/white 64 combi its already gone to a local friend....more VW to come too ,stay tuned....
Message from Sled: Here more WV stuff available....just took some quick shots cause the owner was in a hurry for his job...anyway,feel free to PM me in case you're interested in some of this stuff... in Mexico also there are lots of WV fans, normal being the Bettle procured til 2004 here...Sled
Moondog13,fact is that since Baja Peninsula is just a natural south driving for the CA guys there are a good number of muscle cars there left after some crazy adventures down there...guys went surfing, party, discovering cool empty areas and havin fun...in many cases they run out of money and they simply left the cars there...i found many cars also sittin in federal junkyards, confiscated for carrying drugs and such stories...last plates i saw were from the late 70's....yeah,fun stories!!
Sled, this thread is so cool. Gracias para todo!! I studied two summers in Mexico in Cuernavaca. (Back in 1992 and 1993). Estudio el espanol! I saw a lot of cool old cars while there, but wasn't looking to buy any. Anyway, thanks for the awesome thread. Keep them coming, we love seeing old iron that can be rescued. SpeedAddict001
SpeedAddict, glad you liked the thread...Ah,i know quite well Cuernavaca of course..is one of the few places worldwide where you can be in full summer whenever is winter elswhere...personally im i get tired of the cold of DF (Federal district aka Mexico City) in wintertime i just drive 40 minutes south and i'll go to sleep in Cuernavaca close to downtown...the best part is the breakfast,no matter if is december but i'll get my breakfast outside in the blue sky and sourrounded of palm trees, lovely! Got many friends there too... Yeah,i'll keep this stuff coming of course and mind you...is less and less every day...for example in Df you can't see almost old cars and projects as it used to be before...all towed away by the municipality to car corrals..sad!! Stay tuned, more to come... have a nice one Sled
Sled, do they ever sell the cars in the car corrals? It stinks when government/municipalities decide that every car parked anywhere can be taken just because it isn't licensed currently. Keep hunting the old stuff! SpeedAddict001
SpeedAddict,...Yes,they do!I already bought couple cars from federal and municipal (city) car corrals...2 different procedures, the federal ones are the most difficul being the car confiscated inside havin had major issues (heavy crimes, homicide, drugs, illegal weapons, whatever major shit ) so its VERY hard to take them out from there..usually these car corrals are surveilled too,24H. I know of a federal corral in south DF that you can see from the road a very nice solid 40 Ford coupe ,but for how hard i tried i could'nt take it out...still there from the 70's ,i've heard. The normal car corrals is way easier...cars came in with a date and number,so each car pays is fined daily of 35 pesos (aprox 3 USD daily) wich is a huge sum, that's why if they stay inside for lets say 1 year its already a buck o money to drag em out..plus the crane and tow truck to bring it at the door...i lost a solid 34 5w coupe years ago wich was buried under 3 cars and fine was already 2K...went there next time and place was totally cleared, shit!!!Lost it forever..yeah,cause every certain amount of years they scrap the whole place....
I forgot...there are probably 60/70 car corrals in DF alone...that city is huge!!But stuff is gettin scrapped very often, makin it really hard to save most of it... Usually with a small bribe i manage to go in and take a look around to check out somethin worth it...all for a good reason!!
To finish with it,most of the times the chief encharged of the car corral is willing to take an offer of the desired car, cause they will make less money if goes scrapped anyway...sometimes it works.
Message from Sled: Some more VW stuff around...a gringo left long ago that camber pro built in USA on a Combi base...never seen anything like that.Im always tryin to find some 21/23 window buses, but they very hard to get also here...
Message from Sled: Always loved Airstream trailers and anything art deco related vehichle and automotive style stuff...had the chance on this one and just bought it,it will be delivered next week. Took first these shots, then sent a pal o mine makin some more on the interior ,looked in really nice and clean conds at first glance...once bought it i discovered that CA plates are still on first owner's name ,so the title...wow,what luck. That explains why has had so little use...it's a 67 Globetrotter ,20" long ,single axle, very light to tow....and ready to go!!!Im happy about this one...I wanna polish this thing as soon it arrives, chrome some small details, update some interior touches and let's go camping fellas...
Message from Sled: Some more junk sittin and collecting dust...i was surprised to see the 32 tudor with the cutted roof ,why such crappy job?? But looks like they still have the whole roof ,same as the complete front end so probably i'll try to rescue this one...will see. That's all for now,folks.....Sled
Luckily in the Baja California peninsula is so dry like Arizona,so the stuff will preserve quite well for years...almost no rain too. That's a big plus...
If you like hearses i found some recently..im following another one like the 42 Caddy but still i have'nt seen it personally,i've heard is a 41 Caddy..cant wait to.. also some older 30's hearses are traced down...probably have to travel waaay down south to get this stuff....ah,the hunting thrill, cant get enuff...
fellas ,trying to keep up with things but seems that time is never enuff...got plenty more pix, just be patient ...sled
Ok, it took me 3 days to look at 3 years of posts. I had to stop and wipe my chin because of all the drool. Sled, gracias amigo, you are living MY dream. Muchas gracias for sharing.
rib256,glad you liked the tour...and welcome to the Hamb family.Dont forget your intro...you're a newbie! Just been to a big car show close to DF today and been networkin quite a bit around..some cool info came up and probably i have access to more hidden car corrals in different provinces with a good amount of stuff rottin there...let's see what i can came up with..
Message from Sled: Some more random junk in the baja California peninsula...i took quite some time just driving in hidden roads and private ranches...not so much around anymore but plenty pickups for sure, used in the field...once in a while you get some good surprises but the most stuff is forever gone....sled
More from Sled: suddenly after followeing some good hints some good stuff comes up,such this solid 39 Buick coupe,...lovely front end, factory kustom here. And the moredoor 36 abandoned in a collapsed building looked to be extremely solid...ah,if you wonder about those alu heads ,are Weiand brand...weird how you find stuff and people still dont know shit about...sled
More: Some more junk layin around....liked very much the 60's Citroen DS Break wagon...groovy cars to drive, even with 3 wheels!! The Econoline aint that bad either, funny toy....
