Hey , Got a 38 chevy PU on a 82 s10 frame runnin a 305/700R W rubber mt trans and 55-57 chevy ft motor mounts, w rubber biskutz. New custom driveshaft, balanced. all rear/ft end and frame stock st, just axle flip. Motor came with the flywheel and balancer, and trans came w converter. both used. I know this does not make it right, but cuts out the NAPA factor....Have a vibration that runs front to rear every 3-5 seconds or so....while rolling, not under throttle only ..rear end crooked? driveshaft mis bal? wrong flywheel/conv? crooked drivetrane? Should i solid mt the trans? my lokar nostalgia is beating me to death, help!
Check pinion angle... also, do the U-joint holes line up really well from one end of the driveshaft to the other? Just a guess. At least as likely as the fenders... One more possiblity: lean mixture or other misfire at cruise? Just throwing that one out there. BTTT for someone to 'crystal ball' this one. -Bill
could be the tires not balanced. if your name wasn't the loser then there wouldn't be an issue either. one heck of a name you picked for yourself.
A sense of humor does seem to be lacking on this site most of the time. WITH all the modifying have you done an alignment? There are LOSER car clubs all over the world so your not alone dealing with all the Im better than you crap. But some people need to be better than others to keep there egos inflated.
Thanks for real help! Just want some opinions to start with. If I wanted everyone to laugh at it id go back to wallmart in it fender nazis.
things to try that will help give some direction. does it change if put in nuetral, how about finding an empty road and getting up to speed and kill the motor, if gone its engine/trans. if still there, its driveline or tires. try different tires/rims if available (got a buddy's car with same bolt pattern). do you feel it in the steering wheel, floor, or seat of the pants? is the exhaust hitting anything, are the exhuast hangers solid or have rubber hangers?
Just find a hot rod or modified friendly shop and get the whole thing checked over bumper to bumper. If you have bumpers.
The 305 takes a balanced flex plate (flywheel), is it possible you have one from a 350 with no weights it could be the cause of your problem
I have heard people speak of vibrations and whatnot from messed up pinion angles before. I had a 49 Chevy sedan where the trans was 3 degrees down, and the rear was 4 DEGREES DOWN!!! NO SHIT!! the rear end pads were welded on for some other car, then later just bolted into the chevy without checking anything. previous owner did it... not me. I noticed absolutely no difference in vibration or anything else after I fixed it. my u-joints sent me a thank you card, but that's it. the original V8 chevys with front mounts had mounts at the bellhousing, and I believe the trans just hung out in the breeze. might not solve the problem, but I'd say go with side mounts. I'm thinking if a motor imbalance was the problrm you would notice it while revving in neutral. ... you know what? I'm having troubles on my own car right now. I know where there is a good cliff we could both shove our cars off and then we will have no problems at all and a happy weekend... what do you think? I'm ready and I'll even go first.
Nuetral no change, or killing the motor, I noticed the only thing suportting the heavy SS mufflers atre the hreader bolts and 1 rubber mt. Im thinkin that is a problem. Thanks alot for the great advice!.
