So last night was date night. I pick up our baby sitter and drop him off at the house. The luckiest girl in the world and I roll out to the tattoo festival to check out some freaks and then planned for some sushi after. I get frantic call from the baby sitter at 8 that my tool box had fallen over on my son.

Now...hes good so don't stress. He has been told a million times to not play in the garage. He is 9 and a bit full of piss and vinegar so I have learned to expect some issues from him. (Attorneys are all warmed up and and ready for adolescence)

Somehow and we are still sorting this out he pulls all the top drawers out of the dam thing and it falls over on him. No this thing stands a good 5 and a half feet tall by 4 ' wide. I had never thought about bolting it down...

Needless to say I will today after I clean up the mess. My 64 stopped the box from crushing him...so prolly wont ever be able to sell this truck.

The boy spent 4 hours in the hospital with pretty heavy head injuries. His brain and spine checked out. He has to huge bumps on both sides of his head and a big gash in his back. No motocross today for him.

Ultimately I should have bolted this thing down. Yet, I have pulled on it for 4 years and had no issues. The moral of the story is....bolt it down if you got a little **** head punk kid.

I've got two of 'em (crazy boys). Good advice on bolting down the tool box. I always hate spending all night in the emergency room.

Most of all, glad your son is ok.

Glad to hear he's OK. Do the drawers on your box lock? It could keep someone from opening them all up and making it top heavy.

Whew! That could have been real bad. Glad to hear he should be OK. Would definitely say that the 64 is a member of the family now. When I think back to things I did growing up, it is a wonder I am still alive and walking, no subs***ute for karma and luck! In addition to bolting it down, might also keep drawers locked when not around. Hope he has a speedy recovery.

Where was the "babysitter"? Hate to say it but they should have been doing their job, which is watching your kid.

p.s. if you have a gun in the house get rid of it!!

Glad to hear all is OK. My son is about the same age, never any trouble with him but the neighbors' kids are allways around. They may not understand shop dangers. This is a good warning to all. Kids are curious and can get into stuff just to see what's there.

ya know I have a 17 year old who is polar opposite of my 9 year old. Both kids are good natured, not mean and happy. so I am so very lucky.

This is a nature vs nurture issue. Trev takes a ton of work. He is very kind hearted, but creative and energetic and absolutely does what he wants. We constantly work on his choices and good behavior.

Sometimes you just are the way you are. I remember when he was very young. He would do something despite knowing what the consequences were and that they would come.

This was posted on another forum I frequent. Doesn't need to be a kid involved for this to happen.

Damn! I'm glad your son is ok. You should keep the truck (dents included) and give it to him when he gets his license! :D

I was wondering where the babysitter was, too. Probably too busy texting friends to worry about your kid.

As far as the gun goes, I'd just make sure it has a trigger lock on it, especially since you're in Arizona.

  21. Glad to hear he is okay. A guy in our shop had his trouble light tied to his box. Forgot it was hooked to a car when he backed out of the shop. You know what happened next. He spent several hours picking up tools spread all over his bay......

The accident could have been him playing in the street if the babysitter wasnt actually WATCHING him. Let her go.

If you need to be able to roll your box around, weld a bracket on the back side of it, bolt a short length of heavy chain to it, then another bracket on a beam. when you aren't out in your garage, padlock the box to the wall bracket. this will keep little fingers from pulling it over, and BOLT THE TOP BOX TO THE CHEST always!!

  25. OH yeah very lucky indeed, this is the MRI of a patient I had.

Crush Injury, this is what can happen so think ahead, think laterally, think of worst case scenario and prepare for that (And hope like hell it never happens). There is now over 87 separate ***anium plates and screws holding her head together.
Some people call it overreacting, some call it panicking. I call it common sense, something that is sadly very uncommon these days.

actually, trev was explaining something about the tool box to the sitter, when it happened. He called me. Good kid, none of them were thinking. as much my fault for not bolting it down. They just didnt think it would tip over...neither did I
