History 64/65 Comets old drag cars lets see pictures

Ken;regarding your #1079 post,I had never seen those photos before.DeLorean's 64 is a good looking Comet.Did it race mostly East Coast strips? ROY.

Where did everyone go!!! This thread is like a ghost town!!! I went to the All Ford Show at Knotts Berry Farm,Calif. yesterday.We had a few Comets show up,a 62,63,64,three 65s and a 66,was hoping for more.Way too many new Mustangs but overall a good show as always. ROY.

 

Im still here, Just been busy with a new house. But stillcheckthe thread for all the cool stuff. When I get some time Im going to start working on mine....JOHN

 

I'm guessing it just that time of the year. Personally I'm working on one of my cars every chance I get. The T-Bolt thread is a ghost town too!

 

John;buying a home will do that,but in the end having your own home is worth it!!I parked my Comet for a few years to get my home ready[new garage,etc.].My friend Tim Oneal lives up by you in Clovis,he is the one that crashed his 64 at the March Meet this year. I was just trying to keep this thread from falling out the back into oblivion! ROY.

every time I try uploading shots of my comet, I get kicked off...I hate wireless connections and have to talk to my computer guy. So Muttley, how much did those plugs weight? for the record, I like it...not bashing haha

 

Who knows, I didnt really care in the first place. I just needed something to do last week while it was raining.

George;what parts are you getting from Crites?I have their fenders,twin scooped hood and front bumper on my 65.They are not the lightest pieces but are well built. ROY.

 

Roy, i got 2 front fenders, the ram air hood, a teardrop bubble to mold on the hood, a glass front bumper (going to glass the complete front end together as a flip.) and a deck lid. also got the trunk mount, larger battery box, and the disclaimer tag for the afx i had heard they were not the lightest but were pretty strong so thats why i decided to go with the glass, plus finding and shipping steel front fenders that were good would have cost more, the stuff up here in ohio just isnt here anymore and what is, is rotted or mudd filled. going to narrow the front i beam tonite, as per the thread here on the h.a.m.b. i will post some pics this weekend to keep the thread up! hehe, george

 

This thread, still proves to be so invaluable! I've gone back over it several times, looking at the various pictures all have posted. One aspect that I've noticed is how different drivers played with the alterations. Most here know how I build AWB's, and the side shots really show somewhat of an evolution of these cars. It seems that most, but not all the racers immediately moved the rear forward, slightly, which makes me think they were or possibly might have been piggy-backing Chryslers spring technology, using the shorter front spring center for better bite. Then, they started moving the axle centerline more forward with alteration.

The GoldFender Comet is a neat touch, where it appears they completely rebuilt the wheelhouse opening, after re-centering the rear axle, as shown by its location in conjuntion with the rear pillar.

Jack Chrisman appeared to have gone completely away from the trend, by squatting down the rear, which meant completely cutting away the interior wheelhouses for space. Ahead of the curve for sure, as he really did well with the car.

I'm not trying to say all this happened for sure, just observing what may have accomplished during the course of the evolution of these great cars. It realy intrigues me. I love it.

 

Dale;what you have found is that those early racers were doing mods to give them an edge.I get a laugh out of the "experts" saying what is "right"!! Hell,anything was right back in the day!! How is the 64 coming?I looked for you at Knotts,was hoping you would make it. ROY.

 

George;a one piece front end will really carry the image you are after!! The Crites parts should workout super.On my 65 the fenders were a little long but worked great as it gave me material to work with.I like tight gaps so I beveled the inner edge of the fenders so the door had room when you open it.I think your 64 will be too damned KOOL when you are done!! Keep the pictures coming! ROY.

 

Roy, The car is still up on jackstands, the suspenion components are taken apart for paint, snadblast, and re-assembly. Ah, such is life. At least, next year, we'll be able to drive it over to Buena Park!

 

Dale;do you have a deadline you are shooting for?Your 64 is going to be a knockout!!!It seemed for years I was one of the only Comets at shows and races.It is great to see the cars being built and brought out! ROY.

 

The car is scheduled to be on display, in the main hall, on the main floor adjacent to Ford at this years SEMA 2010.

heres a few pics my neighbor took while i was cleaning the garage. The Crites parts are made very well and fit perfectly. started on the skeleton for the flip nose, will post more as i start glassing it all together, george

 

Wow Dale talk about hitting the big time.Good job.It will be nice to see a Mercury Comet Represent.Looks like I'm going to have to go this year.

Found this in the classifieds in the back of the July 1966 issue of Hot Rod.If I would of known,of course I was only one and didnt have the money.Damn it.

Who makes patch pannels for a '65 Comet sedan? I have found them for Falcons but not Comets so far.

Does anyone have any other pictures of the Marauder Comet? I love the style of letttering on the car, and have come up with some designs , but would love to see some more shots of the side of this car.
