Quite a few cars have ended up in the drink going off of our floating bridges here in WA. Awhile back a car was pulled up with a young woman inside who had been missing for several years, not foul play, if I remember correctly authoritys figured it was a late night wreck with no witnesses.
There is also an old Naval Air Station on Lake Washington, supposed to be a few warbirds under that water also! There is a Corsair at the Boeing museum of flight that was brought up from the bottom of this lake. Thanks to all for keeping this thread going. Have a great week, John

Abbot postcard photograph of opening of Carlton Bridge. Item 21622 zoom send e-card Description

Hose 4 of South Portland Fire Department.

The truck was created from a 1928 Dodge chassis that had been a Cushman's Bakery delivery truck before being damaged by fire.

Fire Department employees rebuilt the motor and chassis and the department's repair shop on Thomas Street added the fire truck body.

In 1942, the truck was equipped with a 500-gallon-per-minute front-end pump as a wartime ancillary.

Just a note of interest,... That Inspector on the left of the fastback was Melvin Napp of Detroit,... He had a Harley dealership in Iowa in the late 30's before coning to Detroit to work at Ford,.... Great old guy, He would go to the FMRC swap meets all throughout the 70's and into the 80's with a van full of small N.O.S. Ford parts,.... nothing bigger than could fit in a lunch box.,.... I always asked him where did he get them,.... He would just grin and change the subject. :D

Hills Brothers Coffee was located on the northwest/City side of the bridge for decades (see coffee sign on building in background) and they roasted beans every day. Practically every time we drove into the City we'd smell roasting coffee. I think HB Coffee's operation there shut down in the '80s.

Yes, that's a Grumman F7F-3N (Marines) night fighter. It has the slightly bulbous nose of the night fighter variant. Lack of a red 'bar' in the national insignias indicates a pre-1948 photo. Note the wood gust lock slipped on over the rudder/vertical fin to hold the rudder in place during this event.
