Thanks Rikster, I don't know why but I'm in love with this Ford. I guess it is trying to define kool... I'll add the pics to my library. Currently the picture that I posted is my background pic. Thanks for sharing all of your pics Rikster and Kongrats on joining the 3,000 post club. Happy Trails, Mick
A couple of months ago Duke found this old kustom. It is in the Dewey area and has been sitting outside since the early seventies. He hopes to be able to purchase the car but the owner is in the "I'm going to fix it up some day mode." Owner say it is a combination of 19 cars. The front fenders are 51 Ford, Nash grill and it has been built to fit a Anglia frame & flathead powered. This is a copy of a picture that was given to Duke when it was in Ford Times in the late Fifties early Sixties. I'd love to have the opportunity to purchase the car but Duke is not talking a you can't see the car from a road, so Duke really had to do some digg'n to find this one. Stay tune hopefully some day the Stray Kat Kustoms will have another Kustom in the stable. Does anyone remember seeing the Car in a magazine? It has a lot of kool potential... Happy Trails, Mick
Mick, Those "sports customs" were really popular for a couple years. A guy in Aurora, MO built one that he cut down from a Hudson sedan that was sharp, too. That is a great find and I hope Duke can get it and save it.
He took pictures with his phone of the cars current conditon and it is still in good shape. It would be kool to see cruzin down the road. We are trying to see if we could borrow it and bring it to the Stray Kat 500.... I'm keep'n my fingers crossed.
Here you go. Built by Enfield Auto Body in Lindherst, NJ prior ot 1960. Owned at that time by Ricky Zodroga. I kept the front photo on my garage wall while building my '53 Chevy - hence the 'vette grille, Merc headlight rims, and stock bumper guards on my car.
The car was later done over in candy red with 59 Chevy quads when owned by Zadroga and can be seen in my little section on Riks site.
I have a sneaking suspicion that the car in the background was Tom Mc Mullens shoebox sedan but its only a strong hunch.
Thanks for the build photos of the Ratty Packard Rik, I'm even more in love with it now. That door dip is just brilliant and the way it plays together with the fender line in the door....a true masterpiece
Based on what we can see I'd say that's the one! Those fender peaks seem to match, and everything else we can see is the same.
It is indeed the Tom Mc Mullen shoebox that he took to Cali before starting Street Rodder Magazine! God Im sick.
I thought I remember seeing this shoebox at Macungie. Is it still around?.In fact,I also recall the Jack Lentz"Golden Rod".
Thanks for clearing that up Anthony. Some more from my own collection I think the lady in the next two photos is Mamie Van Dooren
yup. that was dean's girlfriends car, one he saved before the barris shop succumed to "a act of god" livewires from powerpole+ roof = burnt kustoms!
I was told by John Barris that the second girl there is Bea Arthur - long before Maude & the Golden Girls obviously. Here she is on another car you'll recognize.
WOW Cleatus... those photos are really great. Well not really, but you know what I mean. I dont think I have ever seen the 1941 Ford in the first photo you posted. The HT very nicely proportioned chop... looks like a car built in the late 40's early 50's and looks to be a bit out of place in 1957. The grille looks to be "inspired" by the Johnny Zaro 1941 Ford grille. Do you have any other info on it.
Ya have not seen that shot... I found 8 more pics of the fire the other day that I gotta get and scan.. There was a 32 coupe in the paint booth and the Ala Kart was next to it...crazy stuff..
Don't know any real details and never seen the car published anywher but I don't know the history like many of you. The grill, the hood lip and fender brows are all made up of of 1949 through 1951 Pontiac pieces.
Yes... they are, I know. Just saying it was inspired by the one below, that was built in the late 40's and updated with a new grille in the 1950-51.
That's a great looking shoebox! I had no idea Tom McMullen had one...I only knew of his famous deuce roadsters...wow, he had even better taste than I thought
