Vintage American Steel Leaving The U.S.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by AutoArt66, May 5, 2010.

  1. 1000s of American Hot Rods and Classics Cars have been sold and are lined up in warehouses and parking lots down at the Ports in Long Beach California right NOW - they are being shipped off shore.

Is this OK with you or should we be concerned?

    -Thanks for the input -

One of them is my old '31 5 window coupe, so I guess I'm OK with it....

Who cares! they are going to car guys somewhere, and no one here stepped up to the plate to buy them!

  4. You do know the HAMB is about spreading the gospell of traditional Hot Rods and Customs right? Glad to see some our foreign Hotrod and Custom pals achieve their dream of driving AMERICAN steel. Its a good thing.

Another one of them was my '65 Buick LeSabre, the sale of which helped me purchase my dream car; the '39 Tudor in my avatar.

I'm completely ok with classic American cars going overseas, to deserving foreign owners who can and will pay fair market value on a car they genuinely love.

I was beat up so much on my asking price, by American "car guys", that I welcomed the inconvenience of shipping and a wire transfer with open arms.

Well, it may seem like a lot of cars are going over there... but if you really think about it, it's probably less than 1% of 1% of the total tin available. Rock on!

Car guys the world over ought to be able to get good, vintage American iron. Some of the European countries charge a huge import duty on older American cars, especially if they have been altered from original (hot rods). I empathize with the foreign hotrodders, and say More Power too Them.

I'm one of those guys who has bought a car out of the states. It was great to get a true american V8. All I can say is thanks to all who helped me and yes we only pay all that money in shipping and import taxes on top of the purchase because we are dedicated to the cause

A little O/t, but relevant and interesting. My uncle just sold his 72 Jag XKE v12 2+2 to a man in England. The exchange rate was such that it was less expensive for him to find what he wanted here and pay the shipping and duties to get it back to England.

Well there are plenty of foreign cars here, about time we exported a few! lol

There are car lovers all over the world, so no reason they should not be able to get their hands on some of the "good stuff" too. They might do something awesome with it over there. We might be impressed. never know.

Seriously, he's right, in a year there probably are literally thousands going all round the world. I heard there are something like 4-500 coming to NZ a year, maybe more. However, we are a population of 4 million, so I guess this will ease back over a period of time as the market becomes saturated. We have a site here called TradeMe, sort of like Ebay, and there are plenty of American cars already here that are for sale.

The guys and gals across the pond love them just like we do, as long as they are kept alive and not crushed :)

I also bought my truck from a guy in Oregon. Don't stress, the HAMB is about spreading the traditional hotrod gospel WORLDWIDE. My truck would have been turned into a lame OT Street machine or lowrider or crushed or something, now she's with me and getting taken good care of. If your really worried sell your tin on the HAMB instead of epay and then you know its going to someone who's down for the cause.

If you don't want to ship the Fords, you better return all the Triumph choppers and bobbers

I don't have a problem with cars being sold overseas. If someone buys one it somehow tells me they like us or that era in time the car was built. If I had the funds I'd buy a few from Europe.

  23. I'm guilty then! 28 Model A from Minnesota, 53 F100 from longbeach ,62 Caddy and couple '63 impala's out of so cal ....

I have paid a fortune in postage for parts from the USA but got my 28 A local. I have spoken to a Bloke who imported a camaro to Australia, restored it, drove it, then sold it back to someone in the USA, so they may come back.

No problem here, the idea is to save them and to go to new owners who give a damn. Not a HAMB friendly car, but I sold a 1967 Saab 96 (with a race built Ford V4 no less) to a fella in Italy, via EBAY. Funny, a Swedish car from the US back to Europe. The sale funded the purchase and build start on my 51 Ford.

I have sold at least a dozen cars to Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, and Finland. Now it looks like my 1950's stainless steel diner is headed to Australia. I say more power to them. It makes me want to visit foreign countries all the more!

Someone once told me that there were about 25,000 America cars from the 1950's in Sweden now. I wonder if that's true.

  30. Guilty as charged!

These AD trucks were never officially exported to the UK so what choice did I have??

As Crease said, if it's a big problem, send us all 'our' Triumphs back!
