The 38 is definitely not Larry Catlin; looks like it may be a young Chuck Ciprich.

In the pic with Larry Groover (who was Chuck Akulis' brother in law and a fine wheelman): the 93 of Bemny Stephens, 54 of Roger Burdick (the guy who owns all of those car dealerships in Syracuse now), and the 16 of Dick Clark.

Yep. If I remember right - and again, this is a 40 year old remembering something a 25 year old checked out - the deal was that he was shutting down/selling off the quick change rear end business, but was keeping the other stuff that he made. As far as I know, he didn't find a taker for the business, because it's been a long time since I've seen Jones rear ends, and every other rear end manufacturer since then has been a new design. A couple of guys I raced with had his rear ends and swore by them - heavy, but dead reliable (and neither had anything approaching new).

  11. Say Pete, it's the Bill Harris car that would give me the nightmares.

The Art Tappen Pinto was nothing short of a show car! My dad (Bruce) painted that car, and the work that Dave (Tubby Hubby) Hubbs, and Artie did was incredible! I think it was the only car that Artie had a sponsor, Unique Racquet ball. This car was wrecked soon after it hit the track at Islip, Had to be completely rebuilt, frame shortened, then later sold to Tony Sisscon. Artie and crew then built a late Model for Freeport, and won what seemed to be every race for a couple years. Those are great memories.

The team cars of Jerry Bartlett and Lew Hennessey circa 1976. I'm not sure of the arrangement here as Lew Hennessey usually drove for Ira Bromley. If Jerry didn't own the #23 initially, he eventually bought it, as he later renumbered it 8 and put George Brunnhoelzl Jr. in it. This seem to be George's big break as he scored a few wins with it at Freeport in 1976 and won the Freeport Track Championship in his own car #28 in 1977. Jerry Bartlett renumbered the car the 07 in 1977 and won a feature in it himself. Lew Hennessey went on to run a fairly unique Monza Towne Coupe for Ira Bromley and capture a few features in that car himself.

    See picture string below

    Hey Bakes!

Thanks for confirming what I always suspected about Roger Burdick (that the former driver now owns all those dealerships). I'm glad he finally found his calling, cuz driving sure wasn't it. I always liked the looks of his cars, and you could tell they were well put together....good thing too, since I can't recall anyone who hit the wall at Fulton more than poor ole Roger!

And that is definitely Ciprich in the yellow #38 coupe. I'm also pretty sure that that is one of the 1st cars out of Howard Conkkey's Show Car Engineering shop. I remember the whole body was held on with hood pins & could be removed in just a few minutes!

The photo of the #260 & #3 isn't an All-Star race. It's from reading fairgrounds Speedway and they NEVER had an All-Star race.
