This guy thinks the scoop and wheels rule:

  2. The rearend looks a lot like an 8" Ford. The receiver hitch is a nice touch. Ditto on trading the AssGasket scoop to a mullet. Those things didn't work on ANYTHING... How about a velocity stack air cleaner???

Good buy,the scoop just has got to go,fix your brakes, clean up the rear, put some not so wide tires on rear and it will handle alot better and the guys are right about the front spring, the chrome looks like a little elbow-grease and it"ll shine up good.you definitely got your money"s worth on the buy.

Buy some 15x15 slots for the back and leave it alone. It's cool for what it is, don't ruin it. You said you only bought it for the wheels anyway, I'm not sure you respect the car any.

Glad you got that old bucket. Dig that the old t made it that long without being redone. You will have no problem getting rid of the old wheels if you dont want them :D Just clean it up , make it safe to drive . The front brakes were a common style brake on buckets with wires.

Not sure how much you like the looks of the big fat tires on the back but if you want to improve your ride dramatically especially on the highway you'll change them for something less radical. Took the big Mickey Thompsons off the rear of my T Bucket and put on a narrower tire and no longer had vibration etc past 50 mph and was smooth up to 80. Those big tires pick up every bump on the road.

WOW!!! Looks like I got TWICE as lucky with this car!! I always decode the cars I get. Meaning I like to see what parts are on it using casting numbers and date codes and such. It looks like the engine in the car is a VERY rare 1967 Z28 302 engine from a 67 z28 Camaro!!! The engine block, Suffix codes and heads and date codes all match up and are correct. And if THAT's not cool enough the folks on the Team Camaro boards say they have the 67 Z28 that is missing this engine in their database!! Here is a link to that thread!!

    too much!
That thing was assembled with some cool parts!
As a Mopar guy, stories of reuniting numbers drivetrains to cars is always a neat deal.
I hope that you can work out something that makes both of you happy; he gets the #s motor and you get a good motor in return.

Man if that is the right engine you need to work with that cat and get that engine back in that Camaro! Don't get greedy (not that you would) and work out a swap for a nice engine that would be approriate for the T .
    That's pretty cool

I'm sure it was a high dollar car back in the day. That's why I was asking if anyone may have recognized it. Today I was cleaning up the rear axle backing plates and noticed that they were chromed and so was every brake line, the axle, the trailing arms and just about everything else under this car.

Yeah, I've always thought reuniting an engine with a rare car was cool too. I'll do whatever I can to make sure this one gets back home. Funny how rodders are often crying about bellybutton engines (SBC) being put into rods. Well here is one that will probably be put back into the car it came from 35 years ago! lol

What size tires are those on the rear? I'm thinking of getting rid of the M/Ts on the back of mine. Mine is smooth up to about 70, best at 65, been to 85 but not real comfortable.

    Sorry about the thread hijack!

Inspect the front rims carefully. Mine started to lose spokes after a few years. Also from the pictures it looks like there are no jam nuts on the front hair-pins. That needs to be corrected ASAP. with out a jam nut the clevis will flex in the threads and eventually break.

As said clean it up make it safe and enjoy

As far as T-buckets go. I've always liked the look of Roth's Tweetie Pie. Second would be Norm's Cookie T.

Can't remember what size the tires were exactly. I sold the car a while ago. I do remember the tires were U.S. Royal bias plys from Coker The back tires were 291/2" tall and the fronts were 27"

James...great score...love those rear mags....and also great to hear youre a real car guy who is trying to find the 67 Z this motor came from. I agree with your posts on Team Camaro about some guys criticizing the stamping...that EXACTLY why I hate those cars now. I had a '68 Z that I was piecing together and the absurdity (as you put it) was too much. I am now with the older stuff, its way more individual without rules...you do what you want with your ride...and if someone complains or doesnt like what you did...tell 'em to piss off!

EXACTLY! That's why I'm building my own (27 T) now and just having fun with this in the mean time. Yes I have located the 67 Z28 car and owner and he lives just a few miles from where the T-bucket was in a car show in 1978 in Merced California. The engine matches his car perfectly, date code for date code, stamp for stamp and I am working out a deal to get the engine back into the car it belongs in.

For crying out loud, it's real nice to reunite the 302 with its car but get the major bucks that it deserves to make a Zcar a matching numbers Zcar. Maybe a nice 450HP GM crate motor with appropriate new transmission would be a good straight up trade.
Remember, you've got the major piece of a car that will likely double or more in value when it becomes the matching numbers factory correct car.
When you can find stuff like that you should let it either finance your project in cash or major trade material.

I think if that were my motor and it's proven real, I'd take it over to nearest engine dyno and mount it up. Then take some pictures and send them to the guy. Tell him you are going to turn the dyno on in 24 hours and run it full throttle untill it blows up so he better get a suitcase full of big ones to you quickly. You might even want to make a practice pull or 2 and video them and send the video too just to show you are serious. haha:eek::eek:
