    Okay! That makes MUCH more sense on the price!!! Much better!!! Very good of them for giving you some credit back...

    On the plugs, I would guess if they were sealing before then it's simply the gasket itself. I guess you could always run to NAPA or something and grab a sheet of fuel safe gasket material and make up some new ones and try those.

    I'll run into the shop real quick and see if I can figure out which ones I used on mine...

    Okay, I'm back. At a quick glance it looks like I used the real thin ones.
     
  2. Maybe I should get spider caps (j/k).

    I think a good fuel pressure regular is a good idea.

    I wish I knew anything about how carbs work, I only know how to raise the idle set screw and that's it. I don't know squat about air bleeds etc.

    I got my Lincoln Premier Caps in the other day and I'm super stoked to get them on the car. Only problem is that they don't seem to fit on the Mercury. The teeth seem to be not long enough to grab the wheel even after a little prying out.

    So my next option is to either cut the teeth off and attach them to trim rings through epoxy or welding or carefully hammer the teeth in so they do not interfere with the trim ring. Any suggestions there?

    Fuel leak is fixed but I am slacking with the regulator still. Should have that thing on tomorrow night. I need to get some brass fittings for it before that though.


    Also my wife and I took some Maternity pics with the Merc on Thursday. Mostly it was pics of her with her baby bump but the car snuck into quite a few of them. I'll post some more when I get them. 8 more weeks until the baby arrives. I need seat belts!!!

    As for those rings, I think I read an article where they would take the whole Merc and trade it for a 61 Coupe deVille. I'll see if I can find it a link for you.

    July 14th is the date for our Hatchling. I'm terrified and excited. We already started a car fund for him thanks to his Uncle. And I'm saving the '54 Chevy I have for him if he's interested to build it when he's ready. Trying not to push him into anything though but it's hard hhahaa!!
     
  10. You'll be fine bro. It's way harder and way easier then they say all the same time. But it comes natural. Next thing you know, you'll be handing over those Merc keys (unless I swindle it from you first). I have 2 daughters actually and they are great. Even have one wearing Vans and riding a skateboard on occasion.

    As for the Cad, the flexplate is toast. Plan to handle that this weekend. Starting to get pretty confident in it though. We'll be making it down soon.

    Try to come down for the June 5th Breakfast. I think it'll be a good one with the All Deuce run heading out near there. You definitely need to make it down here....but we also need to get off our asses and head up your way too! Heavy Rebel here we come!

    They may have used this color name in more than one year and some were darker/some lighter - some with more blue/some with more yellow. You may want to really check all of them before deciding. I particularly liked the one they had in 1961. It "may" have only been available on the Invicta. As a salesman a couple years out of the military, I had white coupe with that color as a demo. I thought it was the nuts.....

    imnezrider, I'll look into all possibilities. More then likely though I'll probably pick something that I can see first hand on a large surface. I don't think I can pick a color from a swatch because it may look different when covering a car. I might try to find a similar dark maroon type color from a car that might be at a dealership or at least a car I can see face to face. I seen a Lexus color with not a lot of Metallic that looked pretty good a couple weeks ago. For now though, I need to maintain the single stage black that's on there.

    So was there any opinions on the caps? Should cut the teeth off or try to bend them back? Has there been good luck with epoxy?

    Alright with my testicles in my stomach I cut a perfectly good pair of Lincoln Premier caps up last night. I cut off all the teeth because I felt like I was going to harm the caps by beating the teeth down.

    They lay flush in the trim ring with only 1/16"-1/8" of the ring showing around the edge. Actually looks pretty cool like theres another small rib at the end.

    So my hunt is on for some EPOXY like Fuser to mate the two of them. GreggAZ had a great tech thread on how to mate the two witch I think I might try. I especially like the way he used the wheel for a jig to set the trim ring and wheel cover together. I hate to cut apart a perfectly good wheel for such a small project but I'm not sure clothes pins is going to work.

    I also got started on trying to bring the centers back. I sanded them with 800 & 1000 to try to get some of the scratches out. I painted the back white again and once I get the trim rings fix upon the caps I'll put them back in.

    All this work and I'm not sure if I'm going to run these or Caddy Sombreros still haha!!!

    Working Towards EVEL & Zach's photoshop. Started thinking about Gold paint last night since I have these premier caps going on but then I snapped out of it.

    I actually talked with a friend and think I might tack it in a few spots with a TIG welder then epoxy the rest so it's not rattling. I love the caps I just don't want to start leaning towards that later 50's look. I'm thinking the car might lend itself to a mid 50's look when all said and done.

    Think Dragoo and Morton Merc. Nothing flashy just clean and simple.

    gold would rock out on that car too... though i do love the burgandy in pic above... cant go wrong with either color!!

    Let me ask you this my friend, if the car was painted Dark Maroon would you rather see the wheels in the Coppery color of the engine or Black? I'm trying not to get carried away with colors but I thought the Maroon and Coppery Gold would compliment each other especially with a black and white interior.

    Imagine a tasteful coppery gold striping on the fenders and hood. Should the engine and striping be the only coppery color?

    I am no where near ready to start thinking about paint but it's fun to dream wouldn't ya say?

    Now that I said that and reread it, I am thinking BLACK wheels with the premier caps. Black and White interior, Coppery Gold Engine & striping....done.

    Since you made the decision let me throw this out. Painting the rim gold would look kool
    and would go with the gold starburst in the center of the emblem. Hmmmmm... I love
