History Drag cars in motion.......picture thread.

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Royalshifter, Dec 12, 2007.

  1. There was a similar Vette from the Harrisburg area which was first run as a drag car then converted into an all out ISCA show car with Malco sponsorship. All I can remember was his first name was Chris. Later in the early 80's we built him a full fendered '34 Ford 3 window that flipped up like a Funny Car which also had Malco on it.

I was stationed in the D.C. area in '69 & 70, and remember there being an A/FA circuit that ran the East Coast. The Handlebar Car was one of ,if not the baddest cars on the circuit. I also remember a purple T, with a injected big block, from the Upper Marlboro area. The guy's name was Van something or other. The T in that picture might be Him! does anyone remember Him?

    Thanks,

    Buzz

You're thinking of Chris Lang on the Vette. I have photos of that one. It isn't the same Vette I sent.

Still Old, I have some of those cars which I'll post later. One other car was called the Stone Crude which was blue.

Any info on the Woopee Anglia? I remember seeing it rull at Kinston Drapstrip in the 60's with an injected big block I believe.

Plum, the slide shots look great EXCEPT you need to clean the dust off before you scan them!
What are you using to scan them? I've got a bunch onf slides (so do my folks) and I'd love to get them onto my computer!

Gentlemen - I stand corrected. I was actually there in those days...it's all so fuzzy now. All these old pics bring back a bunch of memories...it is overwhelming sometimes. Adam, I sure am happy to see you in a more conventional setup. I was worried for you last year. The canopy car, though interesting, posed it's own dangers. Like; there's not enough rags to tape to the back side of your gloves to clear your view in the event of an oildown... and... way more oil comes out of an exploding small block than you put in it.

I'm rooting for you Adam! You have the stuff to win this thing this year.

I am using a Epson 4490 photo scanner and it is great. Under $200 and coverts slides and 35mm negatives to jpegs.
Here's some slide samples. These slides are 40 years old and just scanned last week.

I found a slide converter at Kohl's. You can put 4 slides in at a time. Works pretty slick. It does slides and film strips. These are a couple I did a couple of weeks ago.:p

  18. Hey Rich;
I really am liking your old photographs..
it's refreshing to see photos that haven't been cropped & scanned out of someones magazine collection..

    Good stuff ...
Keep the east coast stuff coming.

Tried two of the ones from Kohl's. Could not get the software to work and returned them. Glad to see someone got one to work.

The A&B Speedshop guys towed all the way from Massachusetts to Bakersfield, then blew the motor on the first pass! As Don Ewald said, had to be a long tow home...but realize the guts these East Coast guys had, towed across the country on bad roads just to run the big meets...We West coast guys really admired them for doing it...

Thats a good story.Long ride for sure.Too bad they blew. The West coast guys were the best at injected cars.Adams& Enriquez were at the top of the heap as I recollect or is my time frame thinking a little off.The A&B guys were nipping at their heels.

  26. My thoughts exactly...AND they kept the stock Ford side trim, too! AND it's a Skyliner! That's some interesting work there.

Thank you, man! I appreciate the support very much! I've been oiled in a few times with the Chevy Canopy car. The fire extinguisher holes in the canopy seem to work real well for vision when that happens! The hemi car hit the ground running this year and I think it will run a 5.60 before the end of the year!
