you're the first dirt burner to tell me they have the problems with the shock load- i've heard people say "oh they only work because there's no shock in dirt racing" and i've heard dirt guys say "bs there's lots of shock as the tires hit/unload/load and we only break the lower shaft." and some dirt guys run 900 hp i've seen lots of blown bantam altereds using them and i know those are really light, they also have lots of traction and power too- so i guess i'm conflicted, lol. i'm gonna buy it- and i hope it'll hold 600hp and a non transbrake launch at 2900lbs. if it's just not gonna doit- then i'll sell it to someone doing a roadster or something. anyone wanna weigh in on the grandnational tubes/ends on the street?
Yeah . . . but I figure that with my Milodon cam gear drive, blower drive gears and a Frankland Q.C. - I'll have the Tri-****ta of noise . . . might as well uncork the Lakes pipes as well! All sweet music to my HotRod ears
best way to put tubes in is to bake sidebells in a oven, works best on new bells {divorce on gear lube smell!!} the only other trick is to get the tube way in the first try i was fortunately divorced from racing so no problem
Yes, I've always used SPark. My first 2 are capital letters! Haven't been on here for a few weeks. We run 800HP dirt late models with QC without any problems. You put a ton of twist, load and unload, bounce, jump, bend, ruts, etc. No problems. You should be able to run it in a light drag car. I would think it would have to do more with what type of steel the spur gears were made of. Drag gears are softer than street or circle track gears. Something to think about. You can put any tube in. Be sure it's a true 3" diameter. That is what fits in the side bells. If I remember correctly, there is 5" of tube in the side bell. When you put it in, be sure to pay attention to the orientation of the tube with the center section so your brakes are oriented correctly. SPark
I buy .187 wall DOM tubing and it tends to be just a little big (.002 to .005). So I always con my crank grinder to take a p*** on it - to make it exactly 3.00 inches. Having a nice finish isn't a bad thing anyway . . . a far as fitting them into the bells goes.
