Great photos, sure brings back some great memories! Back then it was an accomplishment just to survive the fair race at Flemington. You know that Midge has that car your dad drove.

The Trevis on Al Consoli's post #10769 started with Wilber Hawthorn. He sold it to Gary Wasson. Gary sold it to George Speck. George ran it in central Pa. in 1970 and retired from racing after the 1970 National Open at Williams Grove. I bought Speck out and ran the car with Bill Wentz Jr. driving in 1971.
The early 1960's Trevis cars were not true sprints as they had a box tube bottom rail and a 90" wheelbase. (Bud Grimm had one of these in the early 60's). The real sprints came in about 1966 after the rule change allowing them. The first real sprints were built with the radiator right behind the torsion tubes and in front of the tie rod. This was where Floyd put the radiator on the 30x90 cars. The big muzzle bumper was there to protect the radiator. Every one moved the radiator behind the front axle but kept the muzzle untill it had to be replaced. The nose on these cars had an enormous opening ( ugly,ugly like a Russian Mig). There were very few of these front radiator cars built. By '67 or '68, Floyd used the good looking Chittaqua built nose and grill as seen on post#10770. If I ever found my old car, I wouldn't restore it with the original nose. Ugly Ugly is being very generous.

 

Al it looks that way because all the guys in the picture are shorter and fatter. Actually the wb is 90". About normal for a NW modified of that era.

Great shot,Al.I was fortunate to watch Benny as a kid when he came to Heidelberg on the dirt half mile,and even more fortunate to race against him in the early 1990's at a 1/3 mile in New Castle,Pa. called Hickory Motor Speedway. What a long career! John S.

This will be the first Louden Meet I will miss. Maybe one of you guys going can copy this photo and show it to Dr. Mondos Uncle. He will have a Nance champ car there that he claims is this car. Actually he has later car that Dunstan got after he sold me his first car. This was the 82 Nance house car driven by Sammy Swindell. Still has the Usac tag on the roll bar.

Anybody know of the history trail of the Holyinski #96 Sprinter? Just kinda curious,as I remember it in western Pa. for a big supermod show around 1964-65. John S.

 

Just to give you guys a lil "pre-anticipation" taste... I just finished the paint and all the lettering for the HART Sprinter which has under went a TOTAL restoration over the last few months. Busy Busy!!! I'll post pics soon!

I feel lucky enough to be born and raised near two of the three best dirt tracks ever! Reading, Langhorne, and Ascot was my third, but a long ways off.
To top that, i lived 1 mile from Hatfield, home of the midgets!
How good it was.

I saw that car a few years back at a garage in Macungie, Pa..
It was waiting restoration. You could`nt mistake the cage on that car. Made it look like a drag car.

Filing System ? My system is unlabeled piles of slides & negatives in shoe boxes.

 

Yea, racerbillyc, i had almost forgotten the livestock auctions every Monday behind the grandstand. Its good we had a pretty steady smell of alky and pop to breathe. lol..
