A shop that rewires electric motors will rewind your magnet, or do it yourself. Just find the right size coated armature wire and wind 'er up!
You gotta have it working, too cool to have it just sitting there crippled. Put it on a stand with two switches, one for the top light and a pushbutton for the wig-wag. Your friends won't be able to leave it alone, guaranteed!

Ha,Great idea and buy a extra switch or two because your friends will wear it out playing with it for days on end.

That looks like a factory Studebaker item. Big buck item at Hershey. That is the only place I've ever seen one.

I bought an after market "wig wag" accessory brake lamp from the 30s off of Ebay many years ago. It's stamped steel. Now I can't find it. The accessory item has an arm sticking up with a light on the end. When you hit the brakes it swings back and forth. I was worried about the voltage issues also. If I could ever find it again I might try to use it on the P/U. It's not he type of thing I'd want on my highboy roadster.:) It's got to catch your eye when working.

What junkjunky said. And, you are lucky to have the lenses, they are very hard to find.

  10. I read it and actually thought it was funny. I'm sure it was just said in a jokingly manner. Come on girls, pull up your panties.

If you know anyone that builds tattoo machines they could probably rebuild the magnet. A tattoo machine is essentially just a electro magnet.

I've had several of those, but never seen one magnetically operated. The stub that sticks out the back is to plug a vacuum line on. Inside is a vacuum motor that is controlled by a spring loaded cam. Needs a valve that opens when you step on the brakes. I used a 12 v normally closed fuel valve that opens when it gets current from the brake lights. Looks kinda klunky on the car and I will replace it when I find something better.
By the way, it takes a lot of vacuum to run one. Even with a fruitcan type vacuum reservoir, it runs out in a hurry.

That's the kind of stuff I love to accumulate. I'd call it collect, but I seem to hoard anything that catches my eye!

Thanks to all you guys for the info and suggestions! I think I'll give a try at getting the coil wound. I work as an electrician and we've got a old motor winder guy at our shop who might be able to rewind the coil. The wire is almost as thin as hair, so it may take a few attempts, but he might just do it!
