I've been bored lately with my Plymouth. I have been thinking of a ton of custom touches that could be done to relieve my boredom. My whole goal for this car is to make it as cl***y a custom as possible. About 2 years ago a friend of mine gave me a set of really nice '55 Olds headlight trim rings. I have been meaning to install them on my Plymouth since but I have been wrapped up with a bunch of other things. So just a few weeks ago all my buddies got on my *** about getting to work on it. Well, my fellow Iron Lord, Jerm, and I decided we would attack the project. Jerm being the sheetmetal god of the club really made it look simple. I was the apprentice. We still have a few things that need to be finished but I learned alot from this project. Here's the before; And the after; I think this may have opened a can of worms for me. My mind won't stop racing. Just thought I would share. ******Knuckles
Looks great. I've never been a huge fan of 50's Mopars but your car does it for me. The chop is perfect
I agree, I like the chop a lot, but to be honest i liked the headlights better before. It just seems like the extended headlights dont flow as well on your car. I hope you dont take this the wrong way, I just wanted to give you my honest opinion.
I think they look good from the front, but from the sides they stick out way too far. Kinda looks like a snail. I think if you ****ed em in to where the bottom of the trim ring touches the front fender it would make a world of difference... Just my opinion.
******...brother you did ask, i've owned 3 51 plymouths and none of them looked as good as yours. but honestly i liked it better with the stock head light rims...POP.
I don't take it the wrong way. Thanks for your opinion. I still have a bit of metal work that needs done to smooth it out a bit to eliminate that "just stuck on" look. My final plans may change a few minds. The grill is getting completely reworked, the hood will be changed and more bull nosed and the rear of the car will be addressed. For now I will have to run it like this for a while but with the final product in my head I feel it will flow fine. Thanks again for your responses. ******Knuckles
The bumper has to go. I'm leaning towards a '53 Ford front bumper. The fact that it has contour to the body compared to just one big curve like the Plymouth bumper, it should work well. The grill opening and splash pan will all be molded together. I'm not 100% sure but I may use the stock Plymouth grill. I'm also thinking a '51 Merc grill. Not sure just yet. ******Knuckles
I think the "ends" of the Ford bumper would compliment the headlights and make them flow better. Cool car by the way I think I saw it at the roundup last year. ?
To ****ie's credit, the lights look waaaaay better in person. They don't stick out as far as the pics seem to suggest. Personally, I love it. ****ie's got good taste and I know the changes to come will compliment the headlight treatment even more. Way to go!
very cool plymouth! chop looks great, i like the headlights but there's to much chrome on the front end. i'd keep the stock grill but lose the chrome trim surrounding it and mold in a custom grill opening. good luck, jerseymike
headlights are too extended. I would recess them back further..bout an inch to inch and half....love the chop.
chop looks bad *** i wanna chop my 50 dodge BAD... i like the look of the lights but agree they stick out a bit far.. i used some 52 merc rings om mine think it looks better than stock but still looks funny to me from some angles..
Guys, thanks for all the comments so far. That is what I like about the HAMB. I'll keep you guys posted with the additional metal work that still needs finished. Thanks again, ******Knuckles
Car looks cool, build it for yourself. The headlights seem to stick out a bit, could be an illusion induced by your pic... dunno. Lots of chrome on that front end, might look cl***ier if you thinned some of of out. I'm going for cl***y with my Merc.
****ie, your headlights are on sorry bro been waiting all day to say that... seriously, they look killer! I am thinking thinned down 51 ford grill in a 49, 50 merc surround. would be ****ies!
You ain't right! I agree that the front end is a bit too bright. I will get rid of the chrome grill surround. Thanks again fellas. ******Knuckles
I'll say it for the hundredth time - eliminate the factory 'hiccups" on the hood and trunk (first thing a 50's customizer would have done). Are you going to redo the rear fenderwell openings as previously discussed? vic
