Amen. Drag it up here finished or not. Especially if it has documented history. Were like pigs in shit for that kind of stuff.
Finished seat, modified the rear wheel hold downs, put new rubber on the front rims, contemplated my navel for a couple of hours and realized there's only eight more days left, damn time flies when you are having fun........
Well today was a banner day after much consternation over a bad magneto and another three hrs to manufacture a new dist some good shit happened http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRNljXWFnMA don't know how to insert video yet..........
Thanks guys, still a lot to do and the time she is a movin quickly, but it was great to hear it run, its always great to hear a 60+ year old piece of Henry's machinery make neat noises, makes this 65 year old even feel good. It won't be pretty but it should be there Rocky, thanks for the implant, gotta figure that one out...........
Carl Congrats on your rail coming to life ! It is good to hear a Flathead all hopped and ready for the 1/4 mile !
Well just 2 days to go and all of the little things are now buggin me, throttle linkage, neutral safety switch, gear selector, brackets for water line, ect. ect. ect. ...............
Keep humping Carl! . . . you're going to make it! The last time I ran my blown flathead coupe at the drags (1980's), I was "tuning" the damn thing about 10:00 PM at night (the night before the Antique Nats) . . . in a crowded neighborhood in Torrance, CA. It was a loud and obnoxious bastard (like some accuse me of being ). I noticed some flash lights shining over the wooden gate to our backyard - with policeman's hands attached! I was revving the crap out of it, setting the Mag's advance, etc.. Anyway, they told me to "shut er' down", but not before they checked it out, listened to it and enjoyed the flathead drag car experience. Make sure you have a list for all the little stuff . . . and take some 'spare parts' for hoses, hose clamps, wiring, electrical connectors, oil, bearing grease, trans fluid, etc. Here is the last time I was at the drags with a flathead -- but it isn't the LAST (can't wait to get back!).
Well this weekend sucks, worked till midnight wed, thurs, friday gettin the skin on and all the other misc work. Then this morning started her up to adjust a few things and check her out. She then started bleeding on the floor, looks like we lost the front seal on the trans, and the rear end wasn't doing what it should, oh well that's what happens when you are in a hurry. Can't say we didn't try but been on a downer today now have to get back after it and make the repairs..........
Sorry to hear Carl. Was looking forward to seeing you run. This has been one of my favorite build threads. Now you can back it off a notch and take your time to work out the kinks. There's always the ANRA meet at Famoso in June. And Oct. is right around the corner.
Very nice build Carl! I was there last year, new restored FED with a nice engine, BUT like a sickness, it will not go away. Soon you just getting worse, new bigger engine, just have to go faster!' On your sudden leak, mine have done it it all the time. I have exactly the same C4 short tranny, after a while it starts leaking around the o-ring on the dipstick. Tranny oil are building up, as it runs from the torque converter. Then when you fired her up, not enought oil in the tranny. This is probably known in the US, but i have not had an automatic tranny before the FED. Br Kjell
Carl, sorry for you troubles. Wish you would have came anyway I was looking forward to seeing you and your "Flat FED". Keep going and we'll see you in Oct. I had a few troubles too not everything can be perfect when you get in a rush.
