That is actually Grahme Bolia standing in the back of picture #5548. Grahme drove the Al McClure #15 at Shangri-La and other asphalt tracks for several years.

That's the third very different version of what happened that I've heard.

More importantly .. does anyone have an update on his condition &/or where he is?

To the best of my knowledge .. Ann Young is not a Doctor .. rather an ER nurse at the Brookhaven Hospital I think.
She was also right on the scene & professionally extremely helpful when Walt Edsel was hit by that front suspension that tore off a modified when it hit the wall.

Here's wishing Wayne all the best, certainly good health and a speedy & full recovery from what ever it was.

Many years in & around this sport have taught me that when you boil it all down .. the very best thing about it is the wonderful people involved. .. doesn't matter whether it's stock cars &/or open cockpit.

My very best thoughts & wishes are with Wayne.

WAYNE ANDERSON HOSPITALIZED AFTER RIVERHEAD RACEWAY NASCAR HALL OF FAME 100
    By, Bob Finan
    Riverhead, NY May 15th.

Former five time Riverhead Raceway NASCAR Modified champion Wayne Anderson 62, of Yaphank was hospitalized Saturday night after completing the NASCAR Hall of Fame 100 at the quarter mile oval finishing 12th in a 24-car field.

After exiting his K-Mart Stores #15 Wayne sat down in his enclosed trailer where he later collapsed. The Trans Care Ambulance that serves Riverhead Raceway rushed to Wayne's pit stall and began treatment right away including the use of an on board AED machine. After coming to and being stabilized Anderson was then taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. As Wayne was entering the ambulance he was alert and talking with his wife Joette and crew members.

Sunday morning team members reported that Wayne would be transferred to St. Frances Hospital in Nassau for further testing and diagnosis and they also indicated the rugged driver wanted to leave the hospital Saturday night but was advised not to.

The evening got off to a great start for the 1994 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion when he set fast time for the NASCAR Hall of Fame 100 with a lap of 12.017 and later raced for the lead with Justin Bonsignore and Rowan Pennink.

Assisting in the pit area treatment of Anderson were Ann Young, wife of Chris Young, and Blunderbust driver Rob Bader, both on staff at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital in the Nursing Department.

Barbara & Jim Cromarty and all of us at Riverhead Raceway are hoping for a positive diagnosis and outcome for Wayne Anderson

NOTE:- St. Frances Hospital is a heart center that specializes in the treatment of heart disease / conditions.

  7. 3rd story? I was right there, I know what I saw! Ann Young is not doctor, okay, at that point in time she was actually the more experienced person on the scene, before a 3rd ambulance showed up from Riverhead's hospital. I don't need to go into further detail what happened, the Good Lord was looking over Wayne this evening!

    Now on to pictures!

Charlie Sieberts 83. He always had a great looking car. That coach he ran at Riverhead was the best.

  9. Well gee Ken, don't you think I don't know that? Why do you have to take a personal story and throw your two cents into it. Any race fan knows it's the people involved that make or break the track and how much fun it it is.
What do you think? We are a bunch of fools? Just as you, I know Wayne for many years and had hung out with him every Wensday night until my failing health stopped me. So what I shared was something that meant something to me and my family.

My living 60 years hasn't taught me a thing, only how to raise a kid that respects his elders and does a heck of a lot with very little and can put a lot of so called experts to shame because many of them have been around racings for 2 to 3xs longer then he has.

Lord, I hate know it alls.

OK Ryan, you can ban me know.

Oh and one more thing, next time you go into Marty Hymes front room? The counter on the right? It curves at the end? Stick your hand in there and you will find a whole load of Golden Chariots Magazines and no, I didn't put them there. Part of Long Island Rodding and Racing History.

Now find something better to do then respond to my posts.

And I thought all Long Islanders liked each other...Anyhow, here's a few R.L.Wilkinson shots taken a few years ago at a NEAR meet: Dick Chapman's # 12, Will Cagle's #24 asphalt car, and Al Fini's # 1 coach.

I'm sure that your account was the most accurate, as the others that I spoke to were not there. They just passed on second or third hand or more info, that (as usual) becomes more & more distorted as it comes down the grapevine. That's what I was clumsily trying to point out.

As everyone else here does, I wish only the best for Wayne.

I know this is a bit late it seems but wanted to say thanks for all the pics you've posted here...especially of note for me was the ones of Ernie Gahan & his #29 modified on page 56. I was lucky enough to end up with the body, cage & some other pieces of that car & am now in process of rebuilding it....slowly.
Though it was on Tom's site I hadn't seen that shot of the wreck...not a good night for the car... do appreciate seeing it here on this thread....by far the most informative I've ever seen on racing history. HAMB rocks!

This is not the place to dispute current events in modified racing...this thread is for days gone bye. Might I suggest you do this on the LI Jam instead . (I'm being polite guys.)

At the risk of pissing more people off...

There was a Wayne Anderson who ran NASCAR Sportsman and Grand American back in the early 70s. He also ran #15. Is this the same guy as the "modified" Wayne Anderson or a different Wayne Anderson?

  21. I apologize to all about my outbreak and also to Ken Shou. I should just have let things slide and know that Ken meant no disrespect.

Thank you for the PM Ken, you are a gentleman.

Can any of you Long Island folks identify this chassis? I believe it was built in the early to mid seventies.
    Thanks,
    Barry

    We do, we do!!!! :)

It's just that some of us are getting old and at times get cranky, crotchety, rusty & creaky (LIKE ME)!!!

That happens and we get cantankerous, because we've forgotten to take the grease gun out & lube our old worn out joints. .... (LOL) .... at least that's my excuse.

It passes quickly and we're back in the grove again.
