Ive been working more on the cowl. I got the two end pieces made that the door goes against, and now i'm making the piece that transitions underneath.

  6. Amazing work Chris. Looking forward to the progress on this one. If your other cars are any indication this will well worth watching and could put a rare body style within the average guys grasp. Pat.

    Really digging this thread!!
couple questions for Chris, you said you are using a four-door cowel-any special reason? is it different that a coupe?
You said the rear section is from a coupe, are the doors coupe or four door sedan, why or why not?
    thanks in advance.

To answer your question the doors on the roadster, five window, and 4 door are the exact same length.

The cowl on all the closed cars are the same also weather it was a sedan or coupe.

The back sections on the 5 window coupe, and the roadster are basically the same exept for the different lengts of the area above the trunk. And the fact that the roadster has wood posts instead of steel on the coupe.

So basically I could have used a 5 window completely for the project, but we had access to a 4 door for the doors and cowl. And then I just had to find a 5 window back section to complete the setup.

    Hope that all makes sense.

Getting most of the cowl all tacked in place. Just have the last two pieces to make on both sides.

Man, you're making me want to cut the top of the cowl and doors off the Fordillac and start over. This looks fantastic, much better than what I did. Good reason to look for another clapped out '36 body, I know I can do better having seen how you are doing this.

Sorry for how long its been since I last updated. Its been a crazy couple weeks around the show and with the photo shoot on my 32' sedan.

I got the door taken apart, and sand blasted. Ill make the inner frame fit with the new hinge location. Then ill work on the door skin and the top of it transitioning into the cowl.

Just a question for you..did you make some kind of tool to peel back the fold on the door skin so you could remove it safely? Would love to see some pics of the process if possible??

Honestly I just use a small claw hammer. I filed the ends a little sharper.

I first have to locate the spot welds and carefully drill them out with a drill bit. Then I use a combination of a small screwdriver to lift the edge, and then the claw hammer to hook onto the edge and pry it up.

I will have to run the edge through the bead roller to make it a crisp 90 again, cause it doesn't come off perfectly straight. But overall it works nice. Cause then i'll just make the top of the door piece, weld it on, and then crimp it back over the frame.

I can't tell you how much I envy your work. My '36 (see avatar) has been my drag car for the last 15+ years and it will be my next project to convert it to the street after I finish my '32 roadster. Unfortunately, I don't have the skills to turn the 5 window into a roadster. Beautiful work. My eyes are glued!

Got back today on the passenger door. Got the top hinge relocated and attached to the inner door. It opens and closes nicely now.

Now its on to building the roadster top part of the door skin.
