Tonight I was going to run into town to fuel my 1962 Mercury Meteor for work and a little cruising tomorrow. Before I left my Dad told me to grab my gas can (it was about half way full) just in case I needed it. While on the highway going to the gas station I passed a beautiful coral/white 1955 Ford Crown Victoria with the hood up. I spun around to offer any help and sure enough he was out of gas. I told him he was free to have what I had in the gas can (he did take it but was very adamant about giving me some money - I recycled his $5 back into the gas can). He was a really nice guy and was surprised how much I knew about a 1955 Ford (I'm only 23 but suck automotive history in like a sponge ). I've been stranded like that before and I was glad to be on the other side and help someone out. I'm pretty sure many of you have done the same thing but it felt good to help out another car guy, even though you've might of not known them. Thanks! Tom - Glass_Packs
Con Grats on being a good person I always stop if it's a Lady thats stranded. I help them with flats and such. Then they offer me free beer or a free pizza. So far I'm up to 4 beers and 2pizzas. I've never collected . What you did was "Carma" IMO,
couple years ago I'm making the 10 mile drive home from Pleasanton Goodguys with 1/8 tank showing on my 60 year old 6 volt gauge running on 12 volts with a resistor in there. so of course I ran out of gas. I found a gas can on the side of the freeway and started walking to the next exit where there was a gas staiton. a guy saw the car and then me and pulled over and brought me to the gas station and back to the car. had his wife and kids in the car and everything. still waiting to do the same for the next guy, but I haven't seen him (or her) broken down yet
That is really cool of you and who knows, when you run out of gas one day you might just see a little 1955 white ford coming your way!
Years ago my 64 Galaxie blew a water pump on the way back from seeing the Tinley Park Il stop of the Hot Rod Power Tour. Well, I forgot my phone and while sitting on the side of the road, a Cobra shows up with 2 guys from Wisc. They saved me!! I saw a 60's Mustang on the side of the road near O'hare airport a few days ago. I did like a 5 mile turn around to go help,but the I.D.O.T truck beat me to them!!! DAMM!! next time I guess!
You did a good thing brother, this past Round Up was my first and we broke down at night and for some reason I forgot my flash light. A couple of cops rode by and shined a light for about 11 1/2 seconds before leaving and we were screwed until a fellow HAMB'er stopped to help and decided to give us his flash light. He was a older guy and he said keep the light and pass it to the next guy that you can help. To you and him I say thanks for being good people. In our f#%*ed up world these days at least the Hot Rodders are still real.
if im ever a millionair. one of the first things im going to do is sit on the side of the highway and act like my car is broken down. the first person that stops to help will get rewarded with a ton of $. around here no one stops for any one on the side of the road. you could be sitting there 2-3 hours or for ever considering the cops wont even stop.
helping a fellow rodder is good helping anyone who drives anything is better people with a common problem often drive common cars when people of varied interests and backgrounds aid eachother, a real sense of humanity is born for that moment in time, not soon to be forgotten by either party. That's how the original rodders became respected on the highways
Surprisingly no one mentioned that your dad was the catalyst for this good deed. Let him know his advice helped someone else too. Dad's need to hear that stuff... (then kindly ask him for lotto numbers ).
It's funny you mentioned Dad. Ever since I've owned my 1962 Mercury Meteor and my other o.t. daily driver, I've been sharing them with my Dad. But for some reason I think be believes my cars run on anything BUT gasoline, as usually by the time I get the car back there's little to no gas left. One morning back in October 2008 I drove my 1962 Mercury Meteor into work and just as I jumped onto the highway the car started to sputter and ran out of gas (of course before I left the house I thought of bringing my gas can with me, but thought "why would I need that?" ). I started walking to the next exit when someone pulled over and offered me a ride to the nearest gas station. I wasn't trying to hitch a ride, but graciously accepted his offer. Once we arrived at the gas station I tried to offer to buy him some gas for his truck but he kept on refusing. He dropped me off by the exit before going back onto the highway, as he was going to work and would of been going the opposite direction. I thanked him for his help and started walking back to the car. Shortly after another person pulls over and was able to hive me a ride near the exit were the car was. I never really understood why someone would go out of their way to help me, but I was finally glad to pay it forward and help someone else in the same dilemma. Thanks! Tom

I ran out of gas 2 blocks from a gas station, started walking. A gent says get back in and I`ll push you. I said you can`t, tailgate won`t stay shut. Thats all right, my boy can ride in the back and hold it up said the man. I guess he did it so I could tell the world to inspire people to help others.
