I was thinking the 14.6 kb might be enough for a 3 or 4 image slide show of my cars.

    Would that be OK?

    Thanks

This is definitely a hotrod site, but it is also home to a serious group of Bonneville and jalopy people which is a huge range in membership. Those jalopy guys impress me as being so hard core with their cars.

But seriously, how many primer Vipers have you ever seen. Mine has 80k on it, it lives in NV, I'm in PA, bot it in CA and when I'm in NV I put over 1000 miles on it each week I'm there. I'm seriously considering making it a jalopy Viper. Go figure.

My slide show I'm thinking about (I don't even know how to do it yet) would be the primer Viper and a restored Super Red R2 Package Super Lark Studebaker. Maybe something else that would be interesting. Just don't know at this point.

I was a notorious sleeper street racer in the 70's with the Studebaker. Seriously, all fell to "The Red Car" in 1974 or thereabouts one year. The stories I can tell are priceless. I was a bully that picked on bullies. With a Studebaker. Oh, The Horror, The Horror...

So I went from a 100% Invisible Sleeper car to a 100% In Your Face car. I went from 0 to 100 in police observables. Cop eyes looking for who just did that burnout will not focus on a stock looking Studebaker Lark. Yep, F117 Stealth baby!

    I still have both cars!

I think I am the only person living on the planet that has had both experiences. Oh, and I'm a crazy person that looks for The Dragon type roads to drive on. I get Gazettes and find the wiggly-est curly-cue roads to drive one. Which means I've had that Viper on many a dirt road in PA and WV. Yep. Vipers on Dirt Roads. And Street Racing Studebakers...

    Seriously, wouldn't that be cool?

This is one of the most amazing car sites I was ever introduced to. None of my Studebaker, Viper, or LS1 Chevy friends ever heard of this site. My Studebaker friends really like it now.

    Cheers,
    Tom

Bring the Stude to the table. The Viper just isn't the right car for a traditional rod site. Hell I got grilled for using a Viper drivetrain in my 49 Cadillac and I've been here for awhile. Best of luck with both.

Geez, I was going to pull the Viper to make you guys happy and you beat me to it - but that's OK.

And yes, I'm thinking of making it a jalopy.

But I still think this is a Bonneville and Jalopy site.

I guess being a Studebaker person, well, sometimes we just don't get it. (I"m a train collector too so you know how weird they are...)

Sorry for stepping on so many toes.
    Tom

PS. But still my question about a slide show GIF. ***uming the pics are on topic, would that be permitted?

As for the GIF thing...I think most of us would prefer you didn't. Big goofy signatures and moving pics on all of your posts are kind of a distraction.

The Viper will never be a traditional hot rod no matter what you do to it.

The Stude, sounds intresting..got a pic??

Anything is allowed for an avatar
BUT the main focus of the HAMB is traditional styled hot rods and customs. Just because a car is painted flat black does not make it traditional. Personally after reading what you just wrote I don't think you "get it".

    I agree I don't get it.

But what is the difference between a hot rod, a jalopy, and a restored old car which is left in dark gray primer as the finish coat? I see 3 distinct groups and philosophies. I know what a hot rod is. But I can only guess what the other two are all about.

When I was young, we used to call our beat up, falling apart cars we had to drive as "loads" and "beaters." According to Wikipedia (terrible source I know), that is the definition of a jalopy but I don't think that is wright either.

    Thanks
    Tom

those three categories are fine, but what will not fit in is a over engineered late-model sports car (no matter how you paint it).
the studebaker on the otherhand, should fit right in. and i would like to see pics

Rat Rod. That was what I was confusing with Jalopy. Its the Rat Rods that show up at Bonneville.

    Sorry for the senior moment,
    Brain dead,
    Tom

PS. Some small pics coming for Lark - I'll put them here and on that Stude thread someone just started.

PPS. When I bot the Viper it had 80k miles and 123 bottles of nitrous through it. The carbon fiber hood was warped like a potato chip so there was a 1.75" gap one one side over the headlights (1.25 on the other side). Hood had severe fiber print through. It had a halon system you could see on the deck behind the seats. The front wheels were black from brake dust which I also liked. It was a war torn "Track Rat" which got 10x the attention a flashy, new, shiny Viper got. Then everyone talked me into fixing the hood for the print through (I figured out how to fix the warp which countless people had said was impossible) and I completely regret it. Everyone has a fly Viper. I liked the Track Rat a lot better. I was removing the character of the car. On well. My mistake.

So why do you keep talking about this Viper??
Kevin in Sheaveport has two, one strickly for the track. He's not on here shouting from his keyboard that his Vipers are so bad*** and I'd bet money his Viper would kick the **** outta your Viper on the track.

Hey man. This is a traditional hot rod site. We don't cover vipers here.
