I lurk here, but have never posted. Most of my stuff gets sent to IndyBigJohn and the stock car photo thread, but this post jogged a memory of something I shot in 1964 or 1965. Bear in mind - these are not my normal quality shots ! (Early equipment and just learning photography). BUT - I think this is the car. I also think it is a Lincoln, maybe a '49 or '50. The clue as to this car maybe being the one you posted is in the way the fenders were cut to open up the tire wells.

The speedway is Eldora, which is a stone's throw from Indiana, so maybe this is a true match. Alas, the 05 car didn't fare well - photo #2 shows it being wrecked. I have no idea who the driver was, and i honestly do not remember seeing the car more than once.

Any Eldora rail birds out there who can provide more information ?

    Thanks.

  4. It's cool how we can help each other find out about cars across the country and history! If it's not the car, we still get the learn about the history of the car we thought it might be! :O) awesome stuff guys, keep it up! Weekends are busy for me, racing season, but I'm back to post more!!!

Here is a picture of Bob Benson in '68 at OCFS. I assume he's your uncle.

Of course with no credit given by the this guy posting it.

As "Dr. John" has noted in a previous post, most of these are lifted from other sites, with the posters convieniently "forgetting" where they got them from.

All the time keeping in mind, just because they are in someone's "collection" doesn't mean they should get credit unless they took the photo. Here's a couple of Danbury photos from the R.L.Wilkinson collection, were probably shot by the track photographer. Some times we don't know who took the shots, but they are still part of history.

I think this system works well, BullFather & co. post great photos, and you and jfp711 can add the credits.

Great photos get posted and the source gets credit; everybody wins.

    Mr. BULL@#$%%^&:

You are correct in your knowledge of race drivers. It was "MIKE SMITH" in this car. He was the guaranteed starter from a Sprint Car track in Central PA. HE was the guy who drove the water truck to the win !! LOL

  13. Thank you for the effort and being there to take the shot.

If not one person cared, and these photos had been forgotten or worse, thrown away, we wouldn't even be having an issue on lifting shots from other sites.

Your experiences there are what we are after, as well as the coolass shots you and many others took.
The HAMB has several threads that are working like a vacuum, and many ,many shots , and film, and people are getting pulled here--just like I did.

Why didn't you just note that it was Mitch Smith? Leave Bullfather alone, he doesn't know all the history that happened before was around; but he loves it none the less. Heck, I don't remember some of the history that I actually witnessed, which is kind of the point of this thread, let's enjoy the old days of ground pounding modifieds. We don't need any sh#t here on this thread.

    Retrorides,
I agree with you. Leave Bullfather alone! That shot of Mitch Smith was at Langhorne in 1979. He had a preferred spot from Williams Grove and so was pretty much assured he'd be in the field. Lee Osborn drove Dutch's Valiant that year and ended upside down in the inside ditch on the front stretch. Not a good day for either, really.

He will be left alone as long as he refrains from pirating my images for his own gains.
I specifically asked him to put the credit up for the Richie Evans photo from Trenton, he refused to do so. I took the matter into my own hands.

No one is gaining anything on here, but it is a nice photo. You took it yourself, I assume, maybe a little logo on your photos would make everyone happy.

I've seen a shot of that car recently. I don't think it was on this thread(maybe LaSheef's). That car was not only interesting because of the body. The guy's who owned it (Russ drove for them) put a small block in it with a Z 28 duel carb manifold. Looked really neat. Big move at that time because the Big Block was still the engine most guy's ran. As I remember Bill Spade may have been the only one at the time really doing well with a Small Block.

  19. You attacked me never asked for your name be credited with that photo through our PMs! I said the photos never had a name attached to it, you could of asked me to put your name there in the first place. Along time ago, I posted a couple photos of your and since then haven't been to the site they were at! We had an agreement, I've always said these photos are not mine but collection of modifieds from different areas, most of them have watermarks or have been from facebook. A lot of photos don't have names of photographers! This thread is about the drivers and stories, if you know the photographers name go ahead and give credit! simple!

And never for my own gain, I want the history of modifieds to live forever so people can share stories while we still have them. A wealth of knowledge is still alive, don't let it die without knowing the stories!!!!

At least he's not poaching your pictures and selling them on ebay or craigslist, like I had done to me on this thread.

Here's a couple of Hudsons, they are scans of hand held photos from someone's scrapbook. Hope no one is offended by them. I like 'em.

There is one major difference here; you put your shots on here WILLINGLY !!!!

I do not want any photos on here at all !

All the "Back Slappers" praising you to high heaven, has resulted in having your shots for sale BY SOMEONE ELSE on E-Bay.

  25. Again a long time ago, I asked if you wanted me to take them down, you said "no" because the damage was already done!

I don't want praise at all, I just want to see people with a smile on their faces when they come here and re-live history and join in with stories. This thread on a hot rodding website has done more good then harm! Because one or two idiots sell them on e-bay, is not going to stop the the smiling faces! People have gotten ahold of the guy selling them hopefully he has stopped!

By the way folks, I found that photo of Evans at Trenton on Facebook, no watermark or given credit of said photo! And if you go back numerous times, I've made statements about the photos not being mine, if you know photographer post it, if you know the name of the driver post it!

I found the slide I took that day and quickly scanned it. Here it is. Low res so you can't steal it as well !! [IMG]

I only post my own stuff, unlike your Long Island buddy !

FYI this was posted on the Facebook page:

Trenton 1978 with Geoff Bodine #1 on the outside
    Jack Hedstrom Photo

I did not send it there either !

  29. Wouldn't it be amazing being born in 1976 to have taken a photo at two years old like that!?!?
