Cool! Looks like it may have been inspired by GM's Buick LaSabre dream car?

  4. You mean, copied, don't you? While the Soviets could come up with interesting designs themselves, they did knock off a lot of concepts from the West, not that we were immune to cribbing stuff from elsewhere. ;)

  5. Me too - on both counts! I just unearthed my original copy of the Fisher Body Craftsman's Guild guide. I did try a couple of times to create something, but my clay modeling skills were absolutely diabolical, to be polite about it.

yea, it would have been funnier if it was the other way around. tho harvey earl had a good track record, so probably not.

This seems to have either, preceded or been influenced by the lasabre too.

    Hey,

Do you know how late those in the contest were required to model the "Corination Coach", did that last up until they ended the program in the late 60's?

The french car builder Samson also built a varient of the Buick Le Sabre show car, their version is almost as "interesting" as the Russian Zil was.

S'more! I think the top row right car was a concept car from Willys! The last car pictured was a gas turbine.

The first one reminds me of a Plymouth but it's from Packard. The other one looks like it may have come from Studebaker.

There is a great book, distributed by Motorbooks International titled
"The GM Motorama, Dream cars of the fifties" by Bruce Berghoff. It covers the entire period of the Motoramas; the show set ups and the cars. Very interesting. I was fortunate to see the last 1961 Motorama in San Francisco. My Dad worked for GM building cars in Oakland, then Fremont. I was about five years old, still remember it vaguely.

Sorry .. not listed on the pages . the reverse side talks about the new 1953 models . Got several thousand loose car ads at a yard sale last year. This old timer had cut them all out over the years. he told me " I sure ruined a lot of magazines." I got about 1/3 of them sorted by make so far. Seems that I had another duplicate of this somewhere too.

    Only half right.

Everyone is using the same software, due to Fed. Gov. mandate.
All the key components have to fit into a particular envelope.
Headlights must be a certain height from the ground, not too close together, or too far apart, only four are allowed, only two can be lit at one time, etc.

Bumpers are heavily regulated, glass, engines, air-bags, CAFE standards, all determined by safety Nazi's and eco-nuts instead of stylist or engineers. :(

Remember who supports this big brother garbage in November, and vote them out.

    For the children! ;)

I love it when people dont know what the hell theyre talking about. all designs start out on a drawing board, theres no software to create cars, theres visualisation software, but that will only visualise whatever design you put into it.

Implying its the recent government who has shaped the whole of car design progression lately. *facepalm*

I found you a better smiley.
