I sat next to him on a flight from Atlanta to LA. Expected him to be sort of a prick but he was actually pretty cool. We small talked and he asked a bunch of questions he didn't have to and seemed like he sincerely wanted to know the answer. I tried not to bug him at all and in fact kind of ignored him and strangely enough this seemed to make him feel comfortable and he opened up a bit. He was sort of a car guy but not a die hard. We talked about women and he had some interesting stuff to say about that. I kept smiling and finally he said "what the heck is so funny man, I'm not saying anything funny!" In a typical DH voice.

It was just that he has such a distinctive voice that I had grown up with. Even recently he has done commercials where he is just the voice in the background but it is unmistakably him. So when he kept talking to me it just seemed weird that Dennis Hoppers Voice was talking to me and it made me smile. Sad to see him go.

You still don't know who he was.

Edit: No offense meant, but the "cult of the amateur" cannot satisfactorily define a persons life's work.

A very much under appreciated american ICON.....he was there in the beginning with James Dean--- directed Easy Rider with pals Peter Fonda and Jack Nicolson.......... Without him and only a very few others---- the film industry might still be all Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Bye Bye Birdie.

    R.I.P. DH

Get informed? Hummm....Ok i'll give him a B list maybe. Im not taking away from his accomplishments but he wasnt a house hold name that every one knew. I only know of him from some recent films from the past 10 years or so. Guys here know of him. Either way. It dosnt matter.

Just an aside. The character Hopper played in "King of the Mountain" was based on a real person named Charlie Woit, aka "Mulholland Charlie". Charlie was a genuine character and ran a Vette that resembled the early Gran Sports. The guy was way fast up there.

Just the opposite is true. Almost everybody knew who Dennis Hopper was...even if you and many others these days don't.

    R.I.P...man.

"No, man, like hey, man. Wow. I was watching this object man, li-like the satellite that we saw the other night, right? And, like, it was going right across the sky, man, and then... I mean it just suddenly, uh, it just changed direction and went whizzin right off, man."
