Just make sure you do your car justice, or Brandy and Scooter are gonna give you a keyboard-tung lashing the likes you've never seen! Haha.

The '58 Caddy fin looks ok...but for such a round car, it may look odd with such solid line? Wheres that picture of that pretty stock '53 or '54 Pontiac hardtop, gloss black w/ flake roof?? That's a purdy car you should take a look at!

I HATE the caddy light look, extremely overused in my opinion. I was thinking of extending the rear qauters out about six inches and frenching in something. What that something is yet, I don't know haha. This car is going to be a full custom, but will retain certain elements that will let people know it's still a poncho.

Bob, congrats on the new ride man! They're great looking cars. Yours looks like a blank canvas to me. Personally, I'd start with the basics first. Fix the rot, shave door handles and antenna, etc. I'd also eliminate a lot of the badging and shave the gas door off the quarter. I'm not a big fan of all the stainless on the hood and decklid, so personally I'd shave that off, maybe peak the hood. French the headlights.

As far as the bump in the quarter goes, don't be afraid to eliminate it if you don't like it. The point of customizing is to improve the lines of the car. You can make the bump work for you, maybe a 53 Caddy tail light in the top and shave the lower light? 54 Packard?

Great looking car tho, and will be a good runner with the 305

This is a link to a 53 pontiac hard top that a buddy of mine built, its a 2dr hardtop and it got stubbed with a camaro front end and it had a pontiac 350 installed. I agree everytime someone wants to do custom lights they are cadillac tails lights, but this 53 actually has cadillac tail lights and they look like they belong on this car i will get more pics sometime soon!

hey joe, thanks for the input. First order of business is to get the floors back together and the rear quaters patched and looking good. Then I'm going to install the motor/trans so I can drive it while I do the other mods. I learned the hard way on the '62 that if you can't drive the car and enjoy it then you begin to hate the car really REALLy quickly. This car will be shaved, and chopped. I can't wait.

Don't do that...it's what makes a Pontiac a Pontiac...if nothing else, and depending on your taillight choice, open a small scoop at the front of the "hump." Keeping the hump will still let anyone recognize it's a Pontiac.

'54 Merc taillights will require some work...I suggest you keep it simple...use '56 Chevy taill lense (bullet type) and sink them (tunneled) in.

"59 Caddy's are overused, unless you do something unique with them --stack them close together, sink them in, put them just above the bumper or sink them so far, only the tip sticks out...!!!

with the hump I was actually thinking of maybe elongating the transition to the hump, so it's not such a harsh abrubt line.

I think the buick light will too small to fill the void of the rear quater, maybe I should just smooth the rear quater and put the lights in a bumper overrider?

Ahhhhh, that looks like '54/'55 Caddy bumper and ends back there...I can only say "good luck" finding those in any kind of decent shape...and if you do, be prepared to pay...!!!

I have a '56 ford rear bumper that has the factory cut outs for the exhaust...that is what I plan on using for the rear bumper and then I have a '54 chevy front bumper and gravel pan.

I like this, But if you want something a little more. Take a look at the 1953 Oldsmobile Tail lights in place of these. Makes it look Exotic. Sorry I can not photoshop. But I think its an idea.
    Good Luck
