Yup, but I just got a call from my glass guy, the windshield they have is cracked, they can't get me one until Tuesday from Miami.......this sucks, I was really looking forward to hacking this weekend, but I can't make a cut until the windshield is here so I can see what I have to do. I guess I'll do the boring task of sanding my door jambs and bondoing my hood.
Gay, rules suck! If anyone can pull this off, Nadine can do it. Just keep the Natty flowing, you'll be A-O.K.!
No, voodoo's right, he fell victim to me once, everything was going well until I said, "let me peak the hood" it went downhill fast.
I typred some real funny shit, but I'm drunk and hit the wrong button, so it's lost forever. Rest assured, everyone missed out on some serious Ernest Hemingway type shit here. I'm too cool for my self.
Wow, until I read all of the posts, I thought my old 68 GTO with about 5 gallons of bondo in left rear quarter panel was the worst I had seen.
Got a lot of work done this weekend but still no windshield as of today, can't chop without it. I forgot my camera, I'll give you updates tomorrow.
I did something very, very stupid, There was rust under the bed floor, I was cutting it out with my plasma cutter near the gas tank, I knew it was a dumb thing to do and the flame cut a tiny hole right into the tank, there was a huge gasping sound, like a giant inhale, almost a precursor top an explosion but nothing else happened. I was shaking from the experience. I took a pic but you really can't see it well, the hole's in the top left hand corner.
Guy I know built quarter panels for a Chevelle out of pampers boxes and bondo. on the inside he used undercoating to cover the name...........it was ugly. and he sold it that way........
I rounded the bolt holding the bottom of the fender on the driver's side with my 12 point socket. I got a six sided impact and it took the nut with it, the whole thing was spinning. I had to cut the bottom of the fender out and weld the nut to the U bracket, the fender finally came off. I then welded the cut out piece back on. These fenders are pristine and they're definitely the originals, I don't know how the rest could be so bad. BTW, this truck was made in Los Angeles, hence the one piece Cali bumpers but it was sold and driven elsewhere.
Pampers boxes........no shit? Bad pun, couldn't help myself. Windshield coming tomorrow, chopping this weekend. I had an idea last night as I was dozing off, I know the top will have to be quartered, so why not remove the roof skin all the way up to the rounded edges and fill the top with a donor roof from a hardtop? That way there will be minimal distortion. There's plenty of roofs at Southeast Chevy Parts down the road from cars that are otherwise rusted to the ground.
Your plasma cutter incident had to be interesting. I worked in a body shop in the early '80s. That was about the time plasma cutters started becoming popular. The Snap-On guy lent us his demo for a week. To demo it for my boss he asked for a piece of scrap sheet metal like a door or hood. He proceeded to cut out different shapes, showing us how easy it was to use and how fast it would cut panels off of cars. The first time my dumb ass boss used it he used it to cut a quarter panel off a car. He didn't take into consideration that it shot out a 2 foot flame on the other side and started the car on fire. It was great! This was the same moron that constantly screamed about being careful when brazing panels, he was too cheap to buy MIG. I came in from outside and saw flames on the inside of a fairly new Chevy he was working on, he was totally oblivious to the flames. Of course since he did it he considered it an accident, I'll guarantee if I had did it his take would have been completely different.
I was that dumbass. The damn windshield is the wrong one, same as the one I have, I can't win for losing, they're trying to get a hardtop one tomorrow.
Yeah, 'cept the new opening is wider and longer. Actually the roof is damn near flat in the middle, or maybe I could just put in a sunroof or a couple of heart shaped van windows.
