It looks like this bill is to increase the yearly amount of specially constructed vehicles (kit cars or Boyd type vehicles). If you have an original car and/or original ***le, you wont have to worry about getting a trailer.

Guys, the bill at hand is for specially constructed vehicles (kit cars). The statement from the senator about more regulation is considered hearsay. I'm not saying it's not ture, but misinformation can end up causing more problems for everyone in the end.

That's why last week I sent an email to her office politely asking whether these statements credited to her are true. She has not responded which to me means she does not care and is fine with her being quoted like that....

Christine Kehoe is my rep. I know from experience that she tries her best to take care of the people she represents. When I had my own business, there were some issues in the neighborhood with graffiti or a street light or what ever, she was right there to get it taken care of.

I'll contact her and let you guys know how it goes..

Actually informed, vigilant citizens keep ignorant legislators from dropping the sky on us. If that means following a wrong lead every once in a while so be it. She has been politely contacted by several people. Let's see how this plays out.

I have to wonder what her (their) rationale is behind this?
Presumably because they feel old cars produce too much emissions, poor gas mileage and poor safety.

However, I would like to see the data that shows that a vehicle towing another vehicle on a trailer would get better mileage, produce less emissions or is any safer than just allowing said car to be driven on it's own.

•My 1940 chevy gets the exact same mpg as my 2006 chevy, so that reasoning is out.
•A vehicle that has the grunt to pull another vehicle on a trailer is likely not too emissions friendly either.
•Towing a vehicle is safer? I doubt it. My '40 has four-wheel disk brakes - I'm sure I can stop shorter and will undoubtably maneuver better as well.
So, I'd say it comes down to simple narrow-minded hatred of old cars and the feeling that they no longer belong on the road without any understanding of anything about them.

It is totally irrational to make decisions/laws without the data to back it up.

As a lesbian, I would think that she would have more understanding as to what it is like to be a segment of the population that is constantly under the scrutiny of another segment of the population who feels they have a right to tell them how they can and cannot be allowed to live their lives.

As far as having to purchase a special permit?
If that would mean that this topic would be settled once-and-for-all and get irrational law-makers off our backs, then I'd go for it, but I really doubt they'd be willing to let it rest.

KIRK!...
Do we know what year this woman considers as a cutoff for regulating cars?
Is she referring to 1980, 1955?......any clue?
The answer to this is a key factor in knowing how to combat this idea and who and what groups to rally against her.

There has been talk about the cal environmentalists being unhappy about the pre '76 smog exemption. Especially for pickups as there are so many still around and used as daily drivers.
Mandatory smog requirements go back to the 1965 model year and if they really want to dig up old laws there was a requirement that cars 1955-1964 had to have a pcv valve added.
So I would be guessing that their dream would be to get all cars 1955-1975 on trailers.

Christine Kehoe is a member of the sierra club and it has been my experience, dealing with them in the past, that rational arguements don't compute with most of them. This is a battle we MUST win and see if it is possible to eliminate the limitation imposed on SCV's. I am a native Californian and I feel I have every right to comment on this issue. If we don't stop the attack on vintage iron now, when will we?

I'm not saying the bill is misinformation, I'm just stating the doom & gloom statement by HVSpeed naming Senator Christine Kehoeis hearsay.

Whatever her exact opinion may be, Senator Christine Kehoe is just one person. We can't realistically hope to win every single person over, nor do we need to.

Our efforts may be better focused on those who are more likely won over to our side in this matter.

Above all, I believe we will be best of making as many new friends as we can, rather that trying to "fight" anyone.

We mustn't waste effort attempting to move the unmovable.

Give'm hell guys, you must win the fight. I started a thread on this today and it was closed after 1 hr and 20 minutes, 1345 visits in that time. I just want the hotrod world to become aware that this can happen anywhere in the country not just in CA. There are forces in our world that think what we do is a waste of time, money and uses energy needlessly in the pursuit of pleasure. They are working on eliminating our freedoms at a pace never seen before. Get involved!

Took the words right out of my mouth! If California starts in with you guys it wont be long before broke *** Illinois sees it as a way to sell a permit (renewed yearly, of course) as a way to get deeper in our pocket. Wish there was something i could do but i dont think a phone call or email from someone 1500 miles out of their district would sway their vote.

So I read the other post yesterday, sent an email to her office and here's the response I got (my email to her is below it):

Mr. Parker, Senator Kehoe did not make these remarks. Can you please let us know the source so that we may correct the record?

In speaking with Senator Christine Kehoe from the San Diego area she flat out said, WE WANT YOUR CARS REGULATED, WE WANT A MILEAGE CAP ON YOUR CARS, WE WANT YOU TO HAVE TO PURCHASE A PERMIT TO DRIVE THEM AND WE WANT YOU TO TRAILER YOUR CARS TO AND FROM YOUR EVENTS.

When she was asked, “What about a guy that wants to drive the Route 66 to Chicago and back?’ Senator Kehoe’s response was, THEY BETTER HAVE A TRAILER WAITING FOR THEM WHEN THEY RE-ENTER CALIFORNIA.”

The fact is trailering a cl***ic vehicle polutes more and uses more fuel than driving a cl***ic vehicle, these cl***ic vehicles are maintained better than most cars on the road as they are prized possessions of their owners. By your stance and careless words you show your ignorance and that you know nothing about our hobby or what it's about and it's affect on the environment. While new cars go to the junkyard and tons of plastic and metal and other materials have to be disposed of. Our cl***ic cars get recycled over and over again and provide for years of transportation.

New hybrid/electric cars have a larger carbon footprint than ten off our cl***ic cars. The battery disposal alone when a hybrid car is at the end of it's life negates any benefit or positive environmental impact it would have generated. Where do you think electricity that powers such cars comes from? Burning petroleum and coal! Fossil fuels are what are used to generate more than 80% of electricity! Do your homework before you attack a wholesome hobby and p***ion of an enormous group of Americans or you may find yourself out of a job!

I'm glad I read this before emailing her office...

Her office is near a buddy's tattoo shop, maybe I'll just stop by.

I too e-mailed Senator Kehoe's office yesterday and I have received two e-mails back from her office. Seems like a pretty good response. Here is the last e-mail:

"Mr. Bryant, about three weeks ago a staff member for Senator Kehoe met with Anthony Publico and his son and daughter to discuss AB1470. They only spoke to the staff member who shared with them the general and historic policy issues surrounding the bill.

He told them that he not yet read the bill because at that time it had not cleared the ***embly, nor had he read the committee ****ysis. They did not meet with Senator Kehoe. The Senator did not say the quote that's been circulated in the HAMB website and does not yet have a position on the bill but looks forward to the discussion that will take place in the Senate Transportation Committee."

The amount of misinformation on the internet is really astounding! We have a tendency to think the worst of people sometimes. Senator Kehoe may indeed be against unlimited mileage for "kit" type cars or she may own twelve of them. To be fair, we have no idea what her real opinion is. Most people when given all the facts can be reasonable - even politicians.

Wise words and thoughts are rare and they are a welcomed breath of fresh air compared to the typical manufactured and always repeated paranoia.
Thank you.
