Ok guys like I said before it's going to be a slow build. It's currently in cold storage.

I also had computer problems for a few months

Plus I had a few crazy thoughts of big shows and their crazy rules.

But here are a few pics I snapped before it went back into storage.

Great to see some new photos of it!

Did you get to take a profile shot of the car as well? That would be cool to see.

I thought I snapped a couple outside but... they got lost in the computer nightmare.

The original idea was to bob the rear fenders to wrap into the new body lines, but after looking at it and thinking and looking and...... you get the idea. The bobbed fenders are out.

I didn't really want to let this secrete out just yet but.... maybe by sharing my thoughts I can get some more ideas from you folks. So if you have some constructive suggestions let me know.

I decided to go completely the opposite direction with the rear fenders instead of shortening them I'm going to make them much longer, by using a set of 47 Lincoln fenders, and possibly the front end as well. I'll roll the rear fenders back into the original trunk section making them like a set of fins more or less.

If I use the front end I'll section the car between 2-3" to thin out the hood to make it more like the Continental. This will also push the wheels forward a couple inches and give me more room in the engine compartment.

So should I use the Lincoln front and section the car or use the 47 olds grille and 53 buick head lights like the origianl plan? What do you think?

Sorry to say... but for me the Lincoln rear fenders totally ruin the look of the perfect chop. It makes it look like the body landed on the wrong frame/fenders somewhere in its construction. The nice flow you accomplished with the chop is no totally gone.
Personally I feel the 39-48 sedan body style looks best with the fenders flowing into the trunk area., and if they would stick out, then only an inch or so But the way it came from the factory, or bobbed in your case makes it look so sexy. The squire look of the lincoln fenders does not work with the perfect flow of the chopped top.
The too long Lincoln rear fenders make it look like an early attempt of a Bat-Mobile to me.

As for the front... well thats debatable... I still like the stock front (or customized with the Olds grille and Buick headlights) better than the Lincoln units. But those can be customized to look good. Another option - I know you most likely don't have those laying around like the lincoln parts - is to find a 46-48 Merc front to graft onto the Ford.
But the Lincoln front end might work.... perhaps you need to loose some wight by narrowing the hood to more reassemble the Ford part (or perhaps combine the two) and come up with a nice custom grille treatment.

But the rear fenders... they don't work for me.. unless you are building a late 50's style over the top custom.

I'm sorry to say it, but I got to agree with Rikster on this one. The chop is one of the best I've seen on this type of car, and somehow all that work disappears in the jumble of lines the Lincoln body parts create. In my opinion, you were on the right track with the Buick head lights and the Olds grille.

Thanks for the input. I guess I was drawn to the idea by looking at the Connies. It seems to me, Everyone raves about how nice the lines are on them. Notice the thin hood and the fenders raised high into the body lines.

There is almost no way for something to flow with a tire stuck on the back. Therefore the tire is out.

What I was going for with the Lincoln parts was a concept car for the first Mark 1. I know that most Mark's are coupes but..... Lincoln didn't have tudor in 47, therefor I thought this a better fit. I guess I was trying to channel what would Edsel and Bob Gregorie, build?

The hood would be narrowed at the back about 2 inches to bring it into the ford width. The headlights on the Lincoln have me stumped I can't think of anything that would work better. I tried the Buick lights mounted sideways and canted but it just was not working for me.

I will go back and mock up the shortened fender and reconsider it before I do anything drastic. I won't be working on it for the next year, My daily needs attention (money), and it will take me that long to recover. **sigh** The daily is a 59 Edsel Wagon bought from a fellow hamber, but that's for another thread.

i think you could make the stock fenders work, try cutting the fender inline with the center of the wheel vertical. keep the flow ..
