here is my '57 Ford Custom. 390 (0.030) C-6 trans, mild Lunata cam. Had this for 20 years. Will go to my grandson, who is only 10 years old. His sister will get the '28 Essex streetrod. She is 7 years old.

I took these photos just a couple weeks ago over Memorial Day weekend at a small local show.
One of my friend's dad's owned this 57 back in the early 60's. It was a mild custom before he bought it and has always been a local car here around Kokomo, IN. It went down hill quite a bit through the 80's then somebody here rescued it and put it back to it's '63-4 configuration as seen here. Currently running a 406/4spd.

A couple 57's I ran across in the junkyard this year. The wintertime photos are from a friend's place in southern Indiana.

Wow man, wicked. Clearly heavily inspired by the "Maze". You don't see too many like that

Yes, like the Maze, this car used to be a burgandy color with fogged panel painting just like that car. It went by the name Kandy Kane, when an engine fire fried the doghouse paint job and dash area. The Buttercup version shown here was shortly thereafter.

I saw this shagged out one driving down the road the other day by an old dude, didn't realize it had flipper caps on it until I downloaded the shot.

And yeah I love 57 Fords, the 58s not so much and 59s are just plain ugly.

I have always wanted a 57 Ford 2-door hardtop. I stumbled into this 58 Ranchero that had started to be converted to a 57 at the local salvage yard. Fell in love with it and had to save it. I is rough but gaining on it. It will be low and a very 50's style custom when done. No motor or trans in the picture is why it is so high in the front.

Can anybody tell me the difference between a 70A,70B and 70D model 57 Ford?....I now Know the wheelbase diff. between the larger Fairlaines and these cars..Decklids too...
but is it a trim package or??????

    thanks

  23. 70A is standard Custom, short trim package on a 2 door sedan. 70B is the Custom 300, full length trim on the same 2 door sedan body, little different interior trim, more color options, a little fancier. 70D is the holy grail, the Business Coupe or Business Sedan. It is the same trim as the 70A, but with no back seat, only a metal package tray, only the driver side sunvisor, and usually everything delete. It was a basic car.

Jeff, It's just the trim package. Think of the Custom and the Custom 300 models as the 57 Chevy 150 and 210. It's the same physical body with a different trim package. The 70D had no rear seat and a stamped metal delete plate in place of one. It probably had rubber floor mat as well instead of carpet.

Remember, ALL 57 Fords share front sheet metal. Customs and Custom 300s share all sheet metal, the only difference is the trim package. Fairlanes are a whole different animal. The doors are obviously different between the hardtop models and the sedans (with that neat skinny stainless B pillar), but I think they share the same decklids.

  25. Is it in the HAMB classifieds? pics?

Many Thanks Fellas...... Helps a BUNCH!

  27. Truly my favorite Ford of the 50s, Have always preferred the 2dr post cars over the longer wheelbase Fairlanes. Have to agree that the 70D is truly the holy grail of the bunch. After searching for a few years for a solid 70D ended finding one right here on the HAMB. Car is in amazing shape (California desert car). Hopefully I will have whittled down my list of honey dos and will start building it this fall.

Coming home yesterday took a slightly different route and was lucky enough to have a jet black 57 Custom series blast by me from the other direction on 119th. Hope to one day get a close up look at this car. It was perfect in motion.

  28. Stole this pic from another forum. It doesn't get any better than this.

i own a 70D, just yesterday at a cruise a "that guy" came up to me and was excited to tell me that he has 3 cars just like this at home. to which i replied, "really! you have 3 business coupes at your place?!" "no, they are fairlanes,.....just like this"......um, no you don't, sir.
i believe that the wheelbase is 2" shorter from the fairlane to the customs, ranchero, and business coupes.

The 70 series are 116 and the Fairlanes are 118 wheelbase.
