Some tri-five rust repair....

I'm sure everyone has seen the typical rust found in front fenders, headlight eyebrows and lowers especially. Here's another spot to check on your tri-five before laying out the coin for a new paint job.....



Here on the inside of the fender at the hood opening, there is an internal stiffener. Note the split and swelling of the metal. This one also happened to have a dark spot on the top of the fender, about 1/32 inch in diameter. I probably wouldn't have paid it any attention had it not been for this rust scale split on the inside. So I broke out the handy Ice Pick and quickly found what the dark spot was.....







You can see where the tires over the years have deposited dirt and debris in locations other than just the headlight eyebrows.....

Time to make a tool to form the beading...







This piece we're making is actually where the hood bumpers sit.

After cleaning up the brace and applying some epoxy primer, time for putting this fender back together....



















Has a couple highs and lows left to pick out to get it straight, but this should last quite a few more years.....

Throwing together a beater......

 

Starting on the driver's fender now, just to show what it has in store for repairs:















We'll start with the inner grill opening rust issue by drilling out the spot welds...



Original, pattern, and new....



Now this fancy hammer I used is sometimes hard to find in the store, but they are on ebay on occasion. 2" dia steel used as an anvil to form the sweep



trimmed and test fit......



Now for the front piece.....

Now in this next picture I used a mower blade that I'd thrown under the welding table about three years ago as an anvil, so you never know what will come in handy. (....but don't use me as an excuse for your hoarding issues, I'll deny everything... ..)







And for a test fit...and a comparison.....





And that will be all for tonight. I'll break out the grille stainless parts to check the contour for any needed tweaking next time.....

I got this '57 150 Handyman wagon last weekend. Posted this pic in the weathered paint thread too.

I've been told that the 2 door 150 side trim is pretty rare stuff, and I was considering selling this set. Anyone know what it goes for? I've gotta know if it's worth separating it from the car.

 

The last nice set I seen sold for $1,000 for 4 pieces.
The upright quarter pieces are different than 2 dr sedan.

 

Damn. That's what I've heard, but I wasn't sure if it was true. I think I can find some other side trim to snap onto it for that kind of coin. Thanks for the response.

This was the last time I saw my '56 210 back in 1983. I had to sell it to finish school. I still have dreams that I find it stashed at my folk's place.
