is the "dream truck" the only truck that got an all out custom treatment in the 50s? or were there others ? iv been searching and cant find any others. considering there are billions of customized cars from that era its hard to believe that only 1 truck was ever done.

Plenty of GREAT kustom trucks built back in the day. Here's a major one you forgot.
Props to Denise for the photos.

  6. I don't know if the Gene Winfield shop truck would be considered an all out kustom truck, but I think it would fit in with this group as well............E

ok ill admit i forgot about the "kopper kart", but the "dream truck" and "kopper kart" were the only ones i could find. iv searched here, google, and a bunch of other places and couldnt find any others.

trucks like "wild cat" dont exactly count sense there isnt that much done to the truck its not an all out custom but more like a mild custom. and "ala kart" although cool and built in the 50s doesnt count because its not a 1950s truck lol. but keep them coming if any one has any pictures of others.

You might want to check out Rik Hovings site. He has a million pictures and you will find custom trucks in there too.

By the way. I really really love the wild cat.

  13. No its just the one with the most magazine coverage.

Lots of very tasty trucks build in the '50s and some of them have already been posted. Guess I'm just a truck sort of a guy.

cover of hotrod 1955 (I think) there was a 42-46 ford truck that was sectioned and chopped, was yellow and had an oval grille , very radical, and nicely done.

The "Mountain Pearl" had the distinction of being the first ever
full color print in Hot Rod Magazine.

I Believe the Kopper Kart makes it out to "Lead East" Every Year. It is nice to walk up to it and look at it rather than just in pictures.

This '37 Ford PU was built by Valley Custom in the early-mid '50s. It's sectioned, so it certainly qualifies as a radical custom.

Your original post asked, "is the 'dream truck' the only truck that got an all out custom treatment in the 50s?". I took that to mean customized in the '50s, which it was. If you only wanted '50s model trucks, you could have been clearer in your request.

The dream truck was probably one of the more radical ones that was done at the time due to the number of modifications.

I think that yellow F-1 Hot Rod Magazine cover car was in the Dallas/Fort Worth area in the early 70's and painted red. It was parked close to my truck (then pretty stock) at an event in the parking lot of Texas Stadium in that time period. I'm pretty sure that truck still exists.
There were a lot of F-100's (53/6) Customized in the late 50's and early 60's, One of the best known in the PNW was a white one out of Renton I believe that was called "The bare end". Canted quads and canted Caddy bullets in the rear fenders were it's more distinctive marks.

In the back of the CustomCar Yearbook No 1 there`s a chopped, channeled and SECTIONED 53/6 Ford that was at a show at Hartford. I`d call that an all out custom 50`s truck.Do cars made into pickups count.

  29. When Dick Dean was still here in Wyandotte Michigan and owned Southend Kustoms he had a killer truck. I am sure Rik has photos. I have heard it still exists somewhere in the Detroit area and have been trying to track it down.

My favorite full custom P/U from the fifties. This is the only car conversion that got the proportions right. IMHO There were lots of home made P/Us but they looked like home made P/Us.:D
