    Howdy People,

Starting to think about a new colour for my '56 International Pickup but want something understated that will look good with a set of black steelies.

    Here's the ugly beast

I'll be loosing the front bumper for a push bar bit of wood and body will end up pretty straight but it will be a barn paint job.

My initial thoughts are towards a beige of some description but interested in what everyone else has painted their similar era pickups.

Not keen on whites or yellows, what's everyone else done?

    Cheers

Beige/tan was my first thought, even before reading your full post.........also, a lighter green, which is what I am considering for my '54 GMC.......actually a gray/green, ........I also want the 'understated look'.........but personally would not care for black steelies on mine. You might also consider a medium gray or a gray/blue (wedgewood blue, I think it's often called) ........

Meadow green, an early F-1 color (the truck, not the racing series). NiceFloor on here has one in his profile album. I also like the light green mentioned above. FWIW

No doubt about it, the old greens are cl***ic truck colors. What greens did International have in '56? Might look good in one of those.

Go past the local Toyota dealer and look at the colors for the FJ's There is a beige that is pretty timeless but not wimpy and several other colors on that model of rig that might go well on older trucks. There is a brownish maroon that has "older custom" written all over it.

There was an old I-H pickup in Lynnwood, WA years ago (neighbor) in a great looking yellow that I have to ***ume was factory - not bright....just more like a shiny pastel yellow. That truck had black rims (albeit with rings and caps) - stunning look.

whatever color that you pick paint from the lowercab belt line and up with a darker shade to help soften the too tall look. follow belt line straight across hood toward front and drop down to hood opening. lose the monster rear view mirrors for smaller ones. get rid of diamond plate on running boards-if damaged cover with sheet metal and glue rubber over top. truck has lots of potential.

Brandy's got a point but I like a bit darker and would go Yuma body with Apache fenders. Yuma rims with spider caps. You decide WWW or not but I'd almost think a set of red lines would look good with that.

I always kinda dug what this guy did with his... might be a bit cl***ic for your tastes but it helps to visualize the typical break lines on the truck if you two tone it.

    How about the seacrest green?

Have you looked at the British Ford Colours from the 50's and 60's. some very understated, greens, greys and beige colours.

Thanks for all the input people, really appreciated.

Gray/blue is a good suggestion Ray and that two tone one looks cool as well Nick, has certainly got me thinking.

Crymo, good call on the early UK Ford colours as well, know of any colour chip sources?

And Bob, how do you do that colour slide show, that's well cool and has really thrown up some options there. Any chance you could e-mail me that so I could pause it on the various colour options?

Liking the beige, pale green, pale yellow, pale blue and the two tone blues and beige/brown.

As for understated colors, I was always impressed by the earlier Volkswagen sedans (say '50s, '60s, maybe early '70s).
They used some really subtle non-metallics and some kinda odd colors that ended up looking pretty cl***y.
