Correction: Late 1961 (in the '62 Vette) the 327 came out. There's no way to get a 283 to 400ci. 4" bore was max and a 400 (3.75") crank still only makes it a 377. The biggest I'd heard of was 350ci and I think that was a 327 stroked.

I was told this was a drag car in north Florida. It was supposed to have a 350 bought under the cowl with what looks like it had headers come out the bottom of the cowl. Where it has the body cut out. I was also told it was yellow and there is a picture of it racing a corvette in a magazine. The question is does anyone know what magazine and or have pics of it?

PS this is the most awsome thread I am a slow reader so I still have not read it all!

Here is a picture of the Maverick I bought last year. The first picture is in black and white and shows the car at the Fremont Drag Strip in 79/80/81. The second picture is in color also at Fremont, third is with it's tow car heading to the Pomona Winternationals in 1979, and the fourth is how it is sitting in my driveway today. I am putting the graphics back on it like when it ran in the Winternationals in 1979. The car was running in the low to mid 10's in the early 80's with a Clevor/4spd top loader...........now it has a 408ci/Powerglide and runs just a little faster.

Dunn's 71 Cuda was built for about $ 1800 dollars. Basically the direct drive train and engine went from his '70 top fueler into the Cuda. The shell was gel coated metalflake, thereby negating negating any need for expensive paint. Car was dollar for dollar, one of the most competetive cars anywhere.

It was found out that when Jim Dunn went to the scales with the body up with the poles it weigh 2,000 lbs.

Without the poles holding the body up it weigh 1,800 lbs.

Could be why the car ran so good, Gotta love Jim Dunn.
