I have been on the lookout for my old 57 Pontiac Chieftain that I sold a few years ago. My wife loved that car and I regret selling. How many of you have bought the same car more than once and how long of a gap did you not own it?

2. I sold my '69 Valiant to my friend Jon in the late 1990's. Bought it back a few years later. Then he bought it back again.

But that's the only one. And I think I'm over it.

I think.

you got lucky and knew who you sold it to. I sold the Chieftain locally and have not seen it in 4 years.

4. Don't recall ever rebuying one. When I wad done with one I was done with it.

I do have a Stude in my possesion that I have given away several times. It keeps comming back. I probably won't let it go again. What is it that say "If you love something let it go . . ."

twice, sold two different cars, a '52 Saratoga and a '62 98, both in nice shape for reasonable money
only to buy them back later, thrashed and for cheap.
both cars turned into parts cars, good parts salvaged and the rest scrapped.

I have sold and bought my 51 Fleetline 4 times with my buddy who I share the garage with. The last time, I took some the good parts ( engine and trans ) and gave him the rest of the car. I'm not buying it again

sold my 62 Caddy to a friend for $2500.00. later the trans started acting up and someone told him it needed a new trans @$900.00 so he parked it in the street under a pine tree and let it sit and rot.

couple months after that another buddy calls me and says the car is for sale for $500.00. he offered it to another friend who buys a lot of cars and he wasn't interested because it was a worthless 4 door. so I rushed over and bought it back for $500.00. put tranny fluid in it and drove it home. couple days later I got under it and saw where the 2 tranny lines had been rubbing together and wore a hole in one. got 2 hose clamps and a 4" section of hose and patched it back up. worked like a charm.

sold it again later for $2000.00.

funny thing about the guy who passed on it because it was a 4 door. before I sold it the first time he told me it was not worth $2500.00 because he knew a guy with a 1974 Ford LTD 2 door in the same shape and the guy could not get $2500.00 for that. this guy is actually an appraiser. how can a person compare values of a 74 LTD with a 62 Caddy?

this is the same guy who warned me about not putting too much money in my 49 Chevy 4 door. dude is stuck in the 70's.

A while back I had a 67 RS camaro that I completely re-built, It was completely trash and basically a parts car when I started and ended up being a very nice street/strip car. I had to sell the car so I could buy my 1st home. I would see it a couple times a year for a few years and just a year or two I saw it for sale on Craigs list.

I talked to the wife and she had to set me straight, she told me that that was not my car anymore and I would not be happy with it. After I thought about she was right I would have been completely upset with that car or more specifically the people who owned it after me as it went downhill after I had it. Besides I really like my 50…

Done it twice. Sold both Camaros to buy land and build a house. Orange RS came back 13 yrs later and ProStreet RS/SS came back 16 yrs later.
Both were well cared for and showed no wear so lucked out other than paying a bit more than I got originally. Still worth it to me to have my own work back in the garage.

My dad did with his '67 Buick GS400. Traded it off shortly after marrying my mom. My brother found it in the trees 20-some years later. My brother wanted to borrow money to buy it, but after my dad saw it, he bought it for himself instead. ;)

If I ever sold something, it would have to go out of state. I don't think I would want to see someone thrash, neglect or change something that I put so much work into. I would prefer to never see it again.

Even if the car has been well kept, its never the same. Just redoing my cars that I built at a younger age made me wonder who the hack was that did all of this shitty work. Perspective changes over time.

I bought a 50 shoebox sedan from a guy in Utah (I'm in Michigan). After a month he called and said he wanted it back if I ever decide to sell it. A few years later I called him and told him it was for sale. Without hesitation he bought it back. So back to Utah it went.

21. Sold my 59 Mercury to a friend, he had it for 11 years without rolling a wheel. Bough it back and drove the wheels off it again for 5 years and sold it again. I'd likely buy it back again if I could find it! Also had an OT Granada that I bought in High school , traded it back and forth about 6 times with my dad( he had a carlot with lots of interesting stuff coming in) Finally took it , restored it and sold it @ teh Barrie Flea Market, lost touch of it until this spring. I thought it was my car that had showed up on Kijiji, would have owned it again just for senti"mental" value again if it had have been "THE ONE", ha,ha!

Cool story!

I've owned the same '66 GTO three times and the same '56 Sunliner twice. Man, I wish I would've bought the GTO back the last time I saw it, cause shortly after, the crack-head that owned it sold it to the crusher!

Only one- a 55 Chevy.
Sold it to a guy in Arizona & he sold it to a guy in California 6 months later (traded for a Nomad). Ran into the guy at a car show a year after that & he had blinged it out w/ 18's & 20's!!
So..........I bought it back. I changed wheels & tires & recently sold it again.

Won't buy it back again. I'm over it now. ;)

28. Last month bought a '70 MGB that I had owned in the early 80s. After I picked up the car, last registered in '83, I checked the title and it was still in my name!!!

Back in '73 while both of us were in college, I traded my custom ordered '67SS/RS that I had just installed a hopped up .060" over, 11.5 to 1 CR, tripped, NASCAR solid cammed 409 b/c gas doubled in price, b/c I basically got scared on a '73 AMC Hornet 6-banger family car.

This after my 350SS engine bit the dust and so did my junk301 was all here......

#1 Son was on the way is all........

Anyway I lucked out and was able to buy it back for dam near what I paid for it new in '81 or '81 and was I happy.

It sit's in my garage now w/ a new un-lit 496 and has a completely modern restified suspension and tires/wheels under it!

I made an offer to the guy who currently owns my '57 that I had in high school - told him that if he ever wanted to sell it, let me know. He seemed generally disinterested in selling it and not real sure that I knew what I was talking about (I guess it would be startling if you get a call out of the blue from some guy you don't know saying you have his old car), but he said he'd let me know if the time ever came. The guy's name is Del Larson and he lives in SoCal, so if any of you know him and see the car for sale, please kick his butt. ;)
