The recent photos of A-C-D's made me think about how far the auto industry went from the early 20's to the early 30's, in terms of body design and streamlining. Here are a couple classics from the boxy nickel era, a 1924 Flint at left and a slightly earlier Hudson on the right. I had some neat pix of streamlined cars, but can't find them under all the bananas. But I'm sure someone has some neat deco car pix from the late 30's they could share.

One of my favorite photos, I think the wrecker was made from a Palmer-Singer Six.

Quite a piece of history here! Geronimo (yes, THAT Geronimo) takes a few pals for a spin in this 1905 Locomobile Model C. Right-hand steering wheels appeared on the 1904 models, replacing the old-style "tiller." The historical shot is THANKS to Randall Glover's Automotive History Online.

Heine-Velox automobile with a big Weidley V-12. I had the spare engine for this car here 20 yrs. ago and if I remember correctly, size wise it was about 36" long and quite impressive.

The car is slated to be at Pebble Beach this year.

Found what I was looking for - this is nice example of deco and streamlining.

I wish those chicks would be polite & move over so I could see the CAR!

No, seriously, beats the "Packard gals." But who the hell staged this publicity
shot? It really doesn't make much sense. I guess, hey, any excuse to show
    shapely ladies, right?

Hey! For a second, I thought it was Luke Skywalker & Ben Kenobe trying to use their force-field weapons to fend off the foot of an Imperial Walker.

Seriously, though, I just loved all the photo ops in the old days, even before TV. You had wire walkers, channel swimmers, gold-fish swallowers, you had Charles Atlas (or was it Jack LaLane?)pulling a railroad engine. On and on. WHAT a time it was! Anything for entertainment.

T-Head, cool shot of one SUPER-RARE car (only 3-4 in existence; and the 1906 version made in San Francisco is EXTINCT!).

But that Weidely V-12 is an AWESOME piece of work!!! Four heads to cap the 12 cylinders. They made other motors, but the V-12 was a sort of legend unto itself and was used by a half-dozen automakers, including Gustav Heine in 1922-23.

But I'd KILL to see a pic of the 1906 Heine-Velox, though!

hollywoodland was a housing development but when the borders pushed closer to the sign tensions arose. eventually the "land" part was dropped, houses kept from being in sight and the rest is history i guess
