Just because I make a living in the hot rod world doesn't mean I want a flyer.

I never really handed out flyers for Billetproof. I put them in cars for the most part or had them on the table in my booth. I really personally don't mind flyers being put in my car at shows - I don't have to carry them around and I can go through all of them at once. It is just one of those things that happens at car shows.

When I'm walking around a show, I don't want to carry someone else's garbage (yes, if I don't want it I consider it garbage). It's kind of like "Here, throw this away for me."

I do, however, always say "No thanks," when someone tries to hand me one that I don't want. My problem is with people who don't take no for an answer.

Also, I would not consider someone who did not take a flyer rude, whether they said "no thanks" or not. I mean I'd be the one interrupting or inconveniencing them (yes, in a very minor way).

  2. well said!!

  3. Well spoken by someone in the industry, who spams cars....
I should not have to roll my windows up to keep people from using my car as a trashcan.

One time I saw a guy get yelled at in Paso for putting a flyer in a car..Then the old guy who yelled at him started mumbling something about stains...it was classic. The car had nice white upholstery too.

I only mention BilletProof because I've gotten BP flyers in my car, and it seems that in the car or in person is the same difference for the purposes of this thread discussion. I agree with you that saying no thanks doesn't make you rude at all, most people don't take a flyer from us when offerred and thats cool.

Either way flyers were/are a very important part to building any great event, not a waste.

I just disagree with you that flyers are garbage, I see them as a possibility to learn about something going on that I didn't know about. Although I knew about BP getting the flyer stoked my interest, and I eventually loaded up a pal and made the drive north for BP, and had a great time. It worked for BP.

I have worked in the Wax and Polish industry for most of my life, we hand out samples MOST people take one or the cheap people try to take 20, I refuse to hand out flyers for the simple fact I HATE THEM...car show post cards I don't mind, but full sheets of paper thrown in my car drives me nuts, I spend hours cleaning my car and keep it clean at the shows, I would NEVER throw paper in my OWN car what gives people the right to do this! I am all about promotion but there has to be another way! There is one guy that goes to all the car shows and cruises, with boxes of flyers from different shows and vendors and will dump 10 to 15 flyers in each car, I guess they pay him to do this! Again what gives him the right! Can I just walk up to Random people at the grocery store and throw paper in their car!!! How would that go over! I guess what I am getting at is don't "Suit Case" a show buy a booth set up a nice display that looks professional, people will come to you!

Any flyers I find in my car..offering any business..I make a point to never use that business.
I own a business..many of us do. Reputation..referral..and advertising (if necessary) beat random trash in my car.

HA HA! It could be the new drive-in tray! You could even dress up your timeout doll as a mail man. Sell them together as a kit!

That is ridiculous. Flyers work. I have found out about MANY shows and other car related items I would NEVER have found out about if it were not for the flyer. The HAMB is great but there are an awful lot of attitudes on here as well.

I was in Las Vegas last weekend walking the strip and guys were standing around smacking stacks of girly stripper cards as we walked by, many throwing them in our face as we walked by. Pretty annoying really.

If your trying to advertise your business of whatever, you should get a booth like everyone else at the show.

Agreed. We only do flyers at events where we buy a booth. Plus, Hot Rod related flyers at a Hot Rod Show are different than random flyers in random places - thats spam.

Those Vegas guys are pushy too.

There's a Donald Trump impersonator in town who any company can hire to hand out their material, he looks in your face, hands you the paper and says, "you're flyered."

Sometimes I'm not sure that is the case, honestly. Elitism shows up all the time in every facet of life and our hobby if filled with it. I wonder sometimes that the lack of younger generations, and I'm only 28, entering the hobby is a result of the defined dogma of what is "right". Honestly shows like LARS and auctions like Barrett Jackson are the problem, IMHO. I'm a Graphic Designer and can appreciate the trouble of conveying creative prowess on a 3.5x2 card! I agree with the idea above about doing some jobs at a booth/station and letting people take cards/collateral from you rather than going around to them. Collateral can be an great tool but while handing it out gets it out to more people, it also means more of it will be trashed. I agree though that you should be cool to people even if you aren't interested. My wife usually snubs people but I at least thank them but decline nicely.

    There you have it!
A 28 year old from Idaho has identified the "Los Angeles Roadster Show" as "the problem"...........

Maybe the LARS isn't for you...but it's not a "problem" for us who have been going since the 1960's and have been rodding in Southern California for 50 years.

I just don't understand the attitudes. We're all in this hobby for the same reason. The cars.

Well, actually we aren't. You attended the show for a different reason than most. You were conducting, and promoting your business. I attended to look at the cars, meet some old friends, and see what's up in the swapmeet. The cars brought us both there, but we were there for entirely different reasons...
