    Hi all,
sorry if this has been asked or discussed before but are waterpumps for flatheads that speedway sell any good? They are having a deal on shipping this weekend, sorry for the shameless plug, and after all the threads about some of their products I wanted to get the HAMB's opinion. I need them for my 1950 Ford sedan.
    Thanks

where did you see that they were having a special on these?

  3. I had mine rebuilt by Skip Haney in Florida.....He uses his own impeller design....quick turn-around and backs his work.......my 21 stud has never been over 185 on the hottest days.....look at Ford Barn for contact info.

Thanks Chaddilac, it's the shipping that is on special. I need to order some sooner than later so I figure take advantage of the deal if the pumps are good quality.

+1 on Skip. Speedway is just offshore junk. I'll never send a $ to them again.

In spite of the prejudice evidenced ad naseum on these pages, I have bought thousands of dollars of Speedway parts in recent years, including water pumps for my Merc flathead, and have not had ANY problems with tose parts..........and most definitely, most of those parts were not Chinese. Buy the pumps wherever you prefer, but for the record, Speedway pumps have modern bearing and seals and work just fine.

I have and I will in the future when I need something they have. I do not work for them.......believe what you want.

There are two reasons I defend Speedway. One, as stated, I have bought lots of their parts with no problems. Two, the majority of the criticism directed at Speedway strikes me as "mob mentality", piling on with little or no facts to back it up. Conjecture, supposition, rumors, etc. is what most appears to be comprised of. I tend to think one has an obligation to know more than that before sullying someone's reputation.

Suppose I said I heard you "like" barnyard animals a little too much, if you get my drift. Sould others repeat that as though it's true?? I don't think you'd appreciate that at all.

And, surprise, surprise, I DO NOT like doing so much business with China. But the reasons for so much goods coming from there starts with your fellow Americans who value price over other factors.....at least enough of them do, to have shifted the sourcing to there. I buy American when and where I can, even at a cost difference I am willing to pay, both for perceived better quality and because it keeps the money at home. Does that mean I will NEVER buy a Chinese made product......no, I have and probably will again.......it just won't be my first choice.

So think what you want, do what you want. But something you may not have considered.......my opinions are just a valid as yours.

  19. Well penned reply -- at least we know what your opinion is based upon. I don't a buy a lot from Speedway, don't like some of their practices (like the 97 carb copy), but I'm not going to bad-mouth them unless I had a personally bad experience. To each his own . . .

You can ask Verne Tardel and the Smith Brothers at The Hot Rod Works in Idaho and they will give you "The Facts".

You're still pretty new here, but a lot of us remember when the whole Tardel thing went down. And wether you believe it or not it is true. And it wasn't the first or last time it happened. Keep your blinders on all you want. The info is all here if you take the time to do a little reading.

av8's post from the Tardel incident.
