Colesly, You need to be an alphabetical technician to figure where and how that 61' 283/270HP dual-quad Vette was classed. 65' C/S (Won Class at Springnationals and Indy Nationals) 66' D/S (Set National record at 12.78) (Stock Elim. Runner-Up Indy Nationals) (Won Class at Springnationals and Indy Nationals) 67' C/S (Set National Record at 12.63) (Won Class at Indy Nationals) 68' F/S (Won Super Stock Magazine Nationals; Stock Eliminator) 69' G/S 70' H/S That was one 'Killer Shark" * There is a story out there, that the Musser Brothers got under Mopars skin so much with the dominance of that car in 65', and early 66' in Division 1, that it lead to the development of the Dodge D-Dart (D/Stock for May 66'). Whether true or not it makes a good read. Don't think the D-Dart could have hit 12.78 (Mussers record) with an early style Nitrous Kit. PC PC
A 440 engine and a hood scoop change would help. The 66-67Dodges didnt come with a 68 Dart/'Cuda hood scoop. Its all about the "LOOK".
X-Tech, Your right, he should take off that ugly hood scoop, and put on a stock hood, or one from a 67' R/T. And put on a nice chrome bumper. Then that car would like like a 'nice virgin peach' PC
Probably due to the small block. NMCA Nostalgia Super Stock cars are usually all big block cars. Other than that, your car would be welcome at most events with that one change. The scoop is wrong for the year - but is "period" correct, give or take a couple of years. I think it looks great!
Jimmy, Sure looks like 'Candida's' Mid-west car. The 67' 400/340HP looks a lot bigger than the 65 1/2' Howitzer. Ran B/SA in 67'. 13.01 would have gotten you into the finals at Indy 67' Ran E/SA in 68'. 12.95 would have gotten you into the finals at the Winternationals 68' 1968, then classed into E/S or E/SA, maybe the most competitive stock class ever. 68' 340 Cuda's and Darts, and 68' Olds Cutlass 350/325HP W-31 'Ram-Rods'. A 68' 340 E/SA Cuda was runner-up at the 68' Winternationals, and a 350 W-31 Ram-Rod Olds won the 68' Springnationals PC
Would you do up a set of heads for me today for that price ? Amazing... keep the great stories and photos coming fellas.........
Looks good! Reminds me of Landy's colors as used on his 1968-up Dodges. There are two things I feel you should change when you get a chance, that is preventing you from running in the N/SS class: a) the correct hood scoop to be "era correct", i.e., A-990-type as used on 1965 and 1967 factory S/S package cars. b) 383, 426W or Street HEMI engine as was originally available in 1966. Nobody will complain if you put a 440 in it. Maybe you can swap scoops with this guy? Best of luck, Pete
anyone have any pics of a gold 55 chevy from the west coast. ive been searching forever for updated pics of it. i helped a guy on the restoration of it, but i had to skip out for collage before it was done. it was a gold post car, with white lettering on the fenders, may of had a tilt hood, cant remember, also had a national record holder sticker on the dash
Check out the Barnett Bros. Dodge in the background, Paul...and the '62 Chevy behind him, Verne. Pete P.S. Name that track, for I don't know!
does anybody know where i can get or do you have any info on this car? it seems like it was a racer at one time. it had a decal or sign on the door that was blue and looked like the ford thunder bird logo, like on the vavle covers
im not sure on that. i asked some of the local boys that hung around tom before he passed, while i was gone, and they cant remember. ik that it was at the Hot rod reunion in 04 or 05. believe it may of had a straight axle under it
Pete, That Pontiac 2+2 Tiger with the 421 tri-carb. A nice cool #3991 lbs. A friend had one. Absolutely one of the fastest street-cars, once it got going. But his 4-speed at the line, totally useless. Snapped drive-train parts 'galore', clutch discs, pressure plates, driveshafts, motor mounts, even snapped a starter. Paul
Almost as bad as Paul Longnecker's '60 Pontiac wagon that he ran in E/MP with a 427. I think it was an 11 lb class which would have put the car at #4697.
One pic is of the late Dick Baker's Lem Immke Buick from Columbus OH with Ron Garey's 70 Olds beside him. Dick was a great guy! Always kept everyone around him laughing!! He had story after story to tell!!
Yup - thats the 67 W30 that became then Black arrow. Also the one that was the basis of Sam Murrays tribute car!
Pete - thanks fo this pic. I have never seen this 67 W30 car before. Does anyone have any info on it. Will add it to my photo collection of 67 w30 cars. Would like some history to go with it. who can help?
Did you know that he (Paul) would only get about 17 runs on a ring and pinion in a Dana 60 with that heavy beast before he had to change the gear set to a new one?
thanks pete,,, i know i need to change the scoop... thats easy,, getting frank to make one.. i wish mopar was like chevy as in swapping small for big motors.... i had a friend who had a hemi and he told me to put it in... like a dum ass i didn't.. o-well...
Go to WWW.InBomber.Com on the "Restoration" page to see our 283 running on the dyno. I'm picking it up tomorrow morning and putting it in the car tomorrow night or Tuesday morning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=et0Cx7z60bY -Dean
Man, you aint lyin. I haven't been to the strip in almost 2 years. Watching dragsters come out of the hole only to come to an idle and then take off? I think they call it computer drags. Not much fun anymore here in Tucson unless there is an altered meet. We use to go to Motion Raceway near Assumption Illinois. Closed down back in the 70s. It had a 392 hemi running starter rollers for the dragsters and funny cars which eliminated the old push-start system. Would like to see the starter rollers come back and make nastalgia racing really nastalgic again. Bill
When I first saw the car at Indy I knew it would be brutal on drivetrain parts, but did not know it was that bad! Paul really jumped around going from the '57 stocker to Pro/Stock, E/MP and Top Fuel. His garage must have been loaded with stuff!
