Has anyone seen a plain jane 15" steel wheel with a 5 x 4.75 lug pattern and nub ring in the center to snap on small hubcaps? I bought some junk yard steelies off of a Chevy full size truck and new tires for my 48 plymouth only to find out THEY WON'T FIT! My frame is a mid 80s Chevy S-10 and they take 5x4.75, but I bought 5x5's. Very frustrating. I tried to find some 15" steelies with the right lug pattern today in a salvage yard but didn't have any luck. Looks like the ones I found off of old S-10s or old Chevy cars are only 14" rims. Since I already have 15" tires, I really hate to go to the expense of settling for 14" rims and having to buy new tires again. I can't return the 15" tires I have either, so I'm kinda stuck. Any ideas? If you've seen some or know they're out there, please point me in the right direction with year/make of car.
I think certain caprice / impalas had those. You have to watch though because if i remember correct some of the square bodies had 4.75 bolt pattern, some of the heavy duty caprice taxis/cop cars had 5x5.
I think 55-56 Chevys were that size Also 68-70? I know my 55 had 15's and so did my 70. These were the full sizd Chevy's. They were 4.75 BP.
1970 and back Chevrolet full size passenger car (Impala, Belair, Biscayne) had the right bolt circle and could have had 14" or 15". 1971 up full size went to 5 on 5
Early 60's Corvettes were 5X15 with a 5 X 4 3/4 bolt pattern. They have other widths as well. Click onto online shopping then go to O.E. wheels. Then, click Chevrolet. They accept Chevrolet dog dish hubcaps as the wheels have outward nubs. The dog dish caps measure approximately 10 1/8 diameter. Coker sells them for $68.00 each. www.cokertire.com
4-3/4 BC plain steel 15" wheels used to be as common as dirt but they seem to be getting hard to find now, at least around here. '67-'70 Full size Chevies ( B-O-P's were 5 x 5), '73-'77 A-bodies (Malibu, Grand Prix, Regal Cutlass, etc.) and '78-'88 B-bodies ( Caprice, Impala, Bonneville, etc. except wagons IIRC) were the most common sources.
Most late 60s-up midsize RWD cars (A bodies and G bodies) were 5X4.75. Most Astros were 5X5". Most 2WD S10 were 4.75", while most 4X4 S10 were 5". All '68-up F- and X-bodies (Camaro and Nova and sisters) are 5X4.75" except for Cadillac Seville (technically a modified X-body, but 5X5" wheels. Some 80s Caprices had 5X4.75" bolt pattern, but I think it's only the ones with the 4.3L V8. Alternately, Astro suspension parts are mostly interchangeable with S10, but have 5X5" pattern on 2WD front rotors, so changing the front pattern is easy... Clear as mud? If you think finding 4.75" on 15" rims is hard, you should try finding 5" on 14" rims...
Ive been looking also.for a factory steel 15 wheel in 4.75 pattern in 57 they went to 14" wheels, so basically you need to find 56 or older. they did put them on some very select apps. after 56 but not many around. as mentioned they are on newer stuff, but not they style your looking for or the widths. most newer wheels are 7" wide.
The easiest ones to find in a wrecking yard are going to be 77-89 Impala/Caprice sedan and coupe. 15" rims, Chevy pattern, nubs for small caps. Watch the station wagons, most of them have 5x5 rims instead. The GM full-size cars from 77-89 had a large platform and a slightly smaller platform, so some other makes will also have the 15" rim with the Chevy pattern - Buick LeSabre to '81, Pontiac Catalina to '81 at any rate. Pontiac Parisienne from '82-'86 also. Here again, coupes and sedans only. They played a lot of games, an '82-up LeSabre is probably going to have 5x5's on it (I know my folks' '84 did). Olds 98s will too but I don't know if 88s ever got the small pattern. Take a tape measure with you to be sure what you get. I've forgotten if the midsize - Monte Carlo, Malibu, Gran Prix, Regal, Cutlass, and too many badge swaps to mention on other Pontiacs to mention (the same body was used for Lemans, then later sold as a Bonneville!) have 15" rims but they might be another source. I believe the Astro Vans are 5x5 pattern, or so I've been told.
Check out Roadkillcustom he has a chart on his site that tells every vehicle ever made with what ever bolt pattern youre looking for.
Most were 15 X 6, 4-3/4" 15 X 7 plain steel GM wheels are hard to find. It took me 2 years to collect a full set of 4 and that was 20 years ago. I still have 'em and they aren't going anywhere.
Correction. S10 4x4 are also 4.75, I owned one up until last week, I still have the rims in the garage, 15x7 5x4.75 with 6in backspacing. The spares were steel, while the rest were aluminum.
What were the '49-'53 wheels? They had a nice looking wheel center that takes a small cap. They were narrow, and might not clear the disc brakes.
gota watch it on the s10 stuff.Anything for the 4x4s has a 6 inch back space that wont work for many applications. Also most s10 wheels have a series of holes or slots rather than the plain rim.
For the price of new ones, I'm too lazy to spend a year scouring junkyards and swapmeets. Is this what you're looking for: http://www.rallyamerica.com/62-64series.html
Chevy had them from 1949 an on. Thea early ones look real good almost like old Ford wheels. the show up quite often. Here's one (yeah I know it's that site, but it's a good pic) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1949...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories Now the real question where do I find 16" wheels with a 5 on 4.75" bolt pattern. If I want old ones that is. //Magnus
My dad's 67 Chevy (four door full size) has them, it's a rusted out parts hulk and and wheels are real bad... I checked but not sure on the width. I also have two (7" wide) that I got from a guy who claimed they were off a GTO, I don't know how true that is but he was real in to Pontiacs so he should know. I'll have to check what's on my dad's 66 Bonneville, but I bet they're 5 x 4.75 15's too.
A friend of mine is looking for these also. The best suggestion I have is to check out Mk 5 - Mk 9 Jaguar wheels (these are the big Jags saloons from the fifties). They are definitely 16 inch, but not sure on the bolt pattern. The later Jags like the XJ6 which are 5x4.75, so these may be also. But even if they are the right bolt pattern, they aren't going to be easy to find!
