Swedester, I've kept that hemi coupe picture around for inspiration since it was first published - perfect late 50s early 60s drag look if you don't mind a little spit and polish.

  5. I've got that T-shirt autographed by "Big Daddy" at Paso 94 for some reason I put it on a hanger and it's never been out of that closet till 5 minutes ago. I had forgot all about it.
mine is a later coupe/ gasser

    Gary,
I love the car. I know this thread is old, but what does it look like now? I have Pop's old car.

  7. Wow- this is an old thread.

I finished the angle chop last summer. Here's the thread:
    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=377233&showall=1

The 354 is getting rebuilt by Carl at Black Mountain Hemi.
    http://blackmountainhemi.com/

Recently, I've been polishing some M/T valve covers and trying to fabricate a Greer-Black Prudhome-style scoop/airfilter.

The next step is the chassis. I have a 9" with 4.11 gears and trac-lock waiting to be narrowed and a dropped '33-36 Ford axle waiting under the workbench.

Here's what it looked like just prior to the Washington DC blizzards:

I'm back to bug ya Gary.... how ya doing on the Sedan?

  10. Thanks for asking, Glenn. I'm making glacially slow- but steady- progress.

I rescued a stroked and exploded Hemi oilpan- details will follow in the next tech week but here's a peek:
    pan 45.JPG

I'm almost finished sanding and buffing the valve covers:
    vc 04.JPG

The shortblock is finished: It's a 354 with 392 10:1 pistons and a 224' @ 0.050" cam. The heads are next and we'll fire it ~ Labor Day.
    engine 09.JPG

I gathered parts for a front axle- a dropped '33 I-beam and a rear axle- a 9" with 31 splines and trac-loc. Won't bore you with pictures of those.

Finally, I'm experimenting with a grille insert. This one isn't quite right- I'm gonna add more holes around those I've already drilled, so they continue under the edges of the grille shell:

  13. Instead of starting another sporadic “Tudor Update” thread, I’ll dust off this original one.

Progress has been slow for a while, trumped by family and work. But now I’m in a position to give the Tudor some love.

Fortunately, fellow Virginia HAMBer OJ is nearby and is fabbing a Deuce frame to match my ’28 A, using JW Garage rails, boxing plates & crossmembers. He’s adding fixtures to a basic table, positioning the components based on Wescott dimensions and a plywood template of my Tudor body:

  14. The pinion is centered. Wheelbase is 107.5".

A ruler is cleco'd to the top of the alignment bar/'driveshaft', from the pinion support along the centerline. It shows the true distance to the rear axle.

The front crossmember fixture locks it at 6* caster.

I am right with you on the type of build with the exception of what you said way back in the beginning of this thread. The part of where this all lost excitement when the glass cars came in. I like them too. I am building a 29 Vicky, I built a steel body then built molds to do it in fiberglass sat on 32 rails with 671 blown early Hemi, Enderle finned bug catcher, CRAGAR blower pieces, CRAGAR gas pedal ,Winters Champ quick change adapted to 40 Ford bells, 31 spline axles, Halibrand Champs and original 11.00x16 Goodyear Blue Streak slicks on rear. Matching raised rib slots and Goodyear Blue Streak speedway specials, Buick finned drums on the front, a 2 gallon Moon tank up front, etc. I like where your going and I think there are a bunch of us out here that will be showing up soon with these type of builds.

Good choice of OJ to built the frame. He does spectacular work

  17. Love the build Gary! Here is my coupe , I am with you. WIN_20150412_145154.JPG

  18. More of OJ’s magic:

Frame rails’ insides have been primed with rust inhibitor and captive nuts are to mount the body.

The jig is configured so the frame rails can be removed and the fixtures stay in place. After the front crossmember is welded, that fixture can be removed and the spring takes its place with the front axle & spindle mockup. DSC00743.JPG DSC00754.JPG DSC00755.JPG DSC00756.JPG

  21. Dave & Glenn, Yeah- I’ve done a few things- albeit slowly:

    …filled the roof:
    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/’28-tudor-update-6-steel-roof-covered-by-stock-vinyl.636247/
…drilled & peaked the front axle and fabbed a mesh grille insert:
    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/’28-tudor-update-7-peaking-the-i-beam-and-adding-a-grill-insert.814111/

    I also scored a free 350 SBC off Craigslist , which I promptly traded straight-up for a ’92 C-10 700r4. :)

Finally, I rebuilt the rear brakes and drilled the backing plates. Then welded, ground & filed smooth the F-150 axle housing.

Meanwhile, fellow VA HAMBers, “ClutchDumpinDan” and “BurnedOutOldMechanic” (Dan & Al) rebuilt the differential.

The level of talent around here is both humbling and inspiring…

  22. More progress from OJ’s Clarke County Speedshop:

The one-piece ss brake & fuel lines will run inside the frame with “dimples” at the stubs where they enter & exit the rails. The first picture is an experiment to see how they’ll look. Kinda like racy lightening holes, dontcha think?

Also, electrical conduit is welded inside the boxing plates, through which we’ll route the car’s wiring.

That there is a slick idea.

  24. More frame progress:

The front crossmember is finally tacked in and boxing plate "backstops" are welded into place.

Then boxing plates are clamped into place and center and rear crossmembers are positioned. Also, the rearend housing ends are cut off in preparation for narrowing.

Looking at these pictures is like watching ultrasounds of my kids. :D

  25. ... while I mocked up the rear wheels/tires & body to determine required axle width:

  26. Watching now with much interest.:)

  27. I glass-beaded the Fenton Gyro front wheels and polished their outer lips, both front and back. Their centers will get painted to match the ET-III rears. The polished/painted treatment lends a more of a purposeful- less showy- appearance.

my fentons 04.jpg my fentons 05.jpg

  28. …and buffed the rear tires’ sidewalls smooth. Sometimes the coolest features are the subtle ones you don’t see. IMAG0629_1.jpg IMAG0631_1.jpg IMAG0650.jpg

  29. Thanks to my friend Bob for helping bring the frame home. OJ did a terrific job on it- besides the hidden brake & fuel lines; he also tweaked the center cross-member for extra transmission clearance, narrowed the rearend housing and welded the ladderbar brackets. Plus he emailed regular picture updates. All-in-all, I’m really happy with it.

Next step is to mini-channel the front subrails & fab new rears, following Rolf’s & DRuss’ technique.
