Thank god your not gonna try to make a gasser out of the 55 with that engine. You have one bad ace project on your hands. Hope you get it finished and dont run out of cash first!
The boat that the BPM motors came out of is a Mays Craft made by Mayea Boat & Aeroplane Works in Fair Haven, Michigan. That boat is only a few years old and the engines had very low hours. Mayea boats are custom made, one of a kind, wood boats. Made of wood but very modern construction and design. The Mayea family has been building these boats, one boat at a time for about a hundred years and four generations. Brother in law Norm Plettl is the Mayea engine man and an expert in the BPM engines. Norm also is an expert on Chrysler hemis too. Years ago, Mayea had Keith Black design intake and exhaust manifolds for their marine conversions, which they have cast and machined just for their own engines. Lookin' good, Gary! Man, what a brute... Been lurking on this thread and will continue to follow it. Your old '55 was a huge influence on me - thanks, I think. This one is amazing in a whole different way. Looks great so far. Hope you can keep going on it. Scotty
Here are some of the latest pictures. It was at Back to the 50's, in St Paul, Mn. last weekend. I may have it at Car Craft, in St. Paul, next month. Hood articulates forward, front end flips forward, both are removable, suicide doors with all the stock components and the handles are going to stay in the original locations, air-conditioning condensers are under the back seat, fan unit is going in the trunk. Going to paint it the stock colors shown, with the stock bench seat and stock interior. Everything fits under the hood and the only hint of a change to the car will be the 18" wheels.
What dispalcement are we lookin' at here? And you MUST post video when that elephant-and-a-half is running.
I saw that in the vendor building but didn't realize that it was yours Gary, I was impressed with the workmanship. BB
When you wonder what to do for an encore............you now have the answer. awesome build.............keep the updates coming. Frank
Thats not my old pal gregs handy work is it kinda seems like something he would want to be involved in......rosco
Thanks. All the fab. work is being done by a longtime friend, Dale Pelvit. He is one of, in my opinion, the top fabricators around. When he is finished with the 55, he will be looking for his next project. Contact me and I can put you in touch with him. Gary 763-473-8963
This one won't be black. I'm going to paint it the stock turquoise and white with a matching stock interior. Motor Wheel fly's won't fit with the 13" disc's all around, so I had to go to 18" wheels. I have a pair of 15x12 rear fly's, if anyone is interested.
He and I talked before I started the project and he would have been a great choice. His work is outstanding.
If anyone is interested, I have another V12 motor, just like the one that's in the 55. Manufactured in Italy by BPM for marine application. It is 730 ci. and all aluminum. I have header flanges made and an adapter to use any Chevrolet transmission. I'm using a 4L80E in the 55.
