Real jet canopies are heavy, big, and not scrapped. The DoD recovers / destroys them so none of the tech secrets get out to the bad guys (magic adhesives, special glass, tinting, etc inside).

First I'd try stuff used on racing hydroplane boats, or acrobatic or crop spraying planes, or other modern experimental aircraft kits, or gliders. Older fighter stuff might be available from prop driven aircraft, but they are generally built in panels not one piece. If you have deep pockets, have one made. Or... ring up one of those custom car guys!!! Gary

    Here's a possibility, but I don't know if it's a good one.
Haven't dealt with these folks in 15 or 20 years!

Used to be the go-to folks for stuff like that was Gustafsson Plastics in St. Augustine, FL.
They specialize in motorcycle stuff but (at that time) were also into one-off projects, as long as you could supply the dimensions they could brew something up.
They may not be able to help, but might be worth an email or phone call.

Like has been said, actual military stuff is very big. The closest thing I can think of to what you may want is a Formula 1 class pylon racing plane. I have seen some where the clear portion of the canopy is not much bigger than the pilot's head. Not exactly common but someone has to build the things.

  17. Try some of the drag boat builders, I know there are people making formed windshields for the capsule canopies. I'll try to get a name.

Ya, I have already talked to a couple of pizzaeria's, they did not like my idea of placing a wooden buck into their oven and melting plastic..... Couldn't imagine why....

You might try scott at this number 989-642-8208 He had a couple of old trainer windshield assemblies aluminum and plexiglass that would be what the canopy slid to They were vintage trainer style. I didn't know there was going to be a test or I would have paid more attention Tell him Guffey sent you

Aircraftspruce.com sell canopies for homebuilt aircrafts in clear, green or smoke tint. Full name is Aircraft Spruce & Specialty Co.

  25. I have a line on some various jet fighter canopies, but honestly even the smallest would be bigger than the belly tank itself.

My best guess would be for you to look through these homebuilt kits offered by Aircraft Spruce, and find one that looks close to what you need. They can let you know dimentions and costs.

Also on a whim , you might put the word "canopy" in the search engine over at Barnstormers. You never know what you might find there, it's the craigslist of airplanes and parts. It's also a good place to look through various types of aircraft to get a feel for what you're after.

  27. there was a booth at bttf's here in minn. last week the guy sells/buys old intakes of all kinds in his big asst.pile was two plane bomber canopys?

  28. ....just had another brain fart!!!!--:D

A few years back, I used to deal in alot of these W.A.R. replica aircraft. They offer 1/3 scale, flyable replicas of P-51, P-47, Corsair, etc. I've had my hands on several of their canopies over the years, and they just might be really close to what you need. They were having supplier problems a few years back, but hopefully it's resolved by now. They have sold hundereds of kits and plans, so the stuff if floating around out there somewhere.
