Sounds like you've done just about everything you can. An electric fan in front up in the doghouse where you get no airflow may help or using the water whetter stuff, just did that to my a100 and it made a huge difference. Is it a 3 on the tree? You could just be getting such high rpms that it's going to run hot on the highway. I have a automatic in my e-100 after I blew up the motor on the highway with the 3 on the tree, now it runs fine (slow and ponderous) but fine on the freeway.

  2. Ok man that. Chop is sweet.
And the rake on the truck is cool too.

  3. Ok not to ruin this fine econoline thread but I just came across a 67 chevy van it has a custom interior.
    It has a straight 6
And all windows. Its way cool
Hey hellfish think they will let me in the hunnert with it or will I have to keep it in the parking lot.
What model might it be ?
And what might it be worth to fix it and put a nasty metal flake panel paint job on it.

Dropping the tank is easy. But if yours is rough, replace it with a 17 or 20 gal 65-70 Mustang tank. You can get them new for about $100 and they fit with a minor adjustment. Basically, you need to move the filler from the top to the side, and add a vent. You'll probably need a new Mustang sending unit too, but all that shipped and you'll be out less than $150 for all brand new, worry-free stuff.

'67 Chevy vans are clearly a "newer" style, so no. The Dodge A100 and Econolines look the same before and after 64 (at least up to 67 for the Econolines). I may be wrong about Chevy though. I'll look, but I think teh earlier Chevy van was a Corvair.

Early chevy has a flat windshield and the headlights are centered on the body line.
Later has a curved windshield and the headlights are down in the grille. [IMG]

Just heard from Chris (vintage-vans.com). The early van get together is on rain or shine at Bakers of Milford, Michigan. Sunday June,27th. If you like stub nose vans this is the place to see them. Check out vintage vans or bakersofmilford.com for more info. Last year was a blast.

gotta build a jig cuz im gonna build a drop in the center of the axle to clear the oil pan & crank...gonna narrow it 2" as well. Prob gonna 2 link with a panhard but have not decided yet. The steering is gonna be the tricky part. Might end up with a couple jack shafts in it to square it back up to prevent bumpsteer... but still working that out on paper.

It has an automatic, an electric fan. It runs regular temp when in traffic or adling, then heats up on highway. It has new water pump, etc., and a new radiator, though the radiator may not be up to snuff........

I'm not a cooling expert, but living in Phoenix and driving nothing but vintage cars kinda gives you a leg up on such things! First things first - does it have a thermostat? And what set point is it? No thermostat has a tendency to move the water through to quickly to cool at high speeds. The other thought is one we see commonly around here with electric fans - at highway speeds with a very narrow enclosed engine bay, an electric fan with a large motor and mounting bracket can actually create a restriction in air flow. I have tried to use electric fans, but find down here with our extremes that they just don't hold up well, and the aftermarket stuff just isn't very efficient. Might try going to a clutch fan from a later ford product and see if that helps.

He has a 180 t stat in it. He actually made a tunnel that looks like a trans. hump in front of the doghouse to get even more air in it. The radiator is moved foreward, the elec. fan is mounted on the back(engine side) so it shouldn't block airflow.

I have a tripple core mustang rad in my 63 and it cools very well and I don't even have a fan shroud.

Sounds like you've gone to the ends with the cooling, the problem must lie in the motor. You may just have to live with it then.

  14. Have you had the motor open lately????? its possible you have water jackets plugged........FYI on my A-100 I used elec.fan(pulling) and a airdamn to get fresh air to it worked great here in Tucson

So, using 14x7 inch wheels, with the stock brakes, what backspacing would I need for steelies?? Would these wheels still work after I do the disc brake conversion? I want to buy new wheels, and am hoping I will only need one set....

stock wheels won't work with disks, but some aftermarket ones will. Do some measurements

Something I've done to my 'Heavy' and others...is to 'insulate' the fuel line with a larger diameter peice of fuel line? So if your running 3/8" fuel line...take a piece of 1/2", split down one side and hug it over the 3/8", and secure it with some small thin zip ties, where it might come into contact with high temp? In my case, heater hoses. One of my other buddies was having the same problem Saturday when he got to Billet...the fuel was boling away in the filter. I'll send you a pic text of my gig...Just an idea...cheap too!!

In the winter I 'hug' the whole fuel line to insulate it from the cold (like the 8 degree mornings we had this past winter!).

    Hope that helps?

Steve, hey that looks great! I'm not a fan of the wheels. I say steel wheels or slots.

    VAPOR LOCK :

Is it a six or an eight? Sixes have that problem sometimes. You can leave the doghouse open a bit to improve air flow and keep it cool when you aren't driving it, but you may also be able to put a spacer under the carb to lift it just a little higher away from the heat. Vapor lock is a fairly common problem on plymouth and dodge slant sixes that can be fixed with a spacer, not sure about yours.
