Ok we are now building a F5 !! I got a bunch of steel and a really nice truck to start on . Here is my original sketch . Will post pix. as we get it done. It's either going to have a 5th wheel plate or a ol' wrecker boom . Not really sure yet . But we know it's going to be low !!!! And slow !!!!
if you dont like it, then shut up, looks cool to me, and plus look at the dam picture! its was drawn with a god damned pencil and lined paper! who knows what it will look like when its done! go for it, and keep us informed.
So, are you going to use the original 6.67:1 rearend?? Or does it have a two speed with high in the high 5s. That would be good for 55 mph at most without an overdrive. Might have to think about that.
Yep , it will be a creeper . I couldn't imagine going fast in it at all !!! We are doing it because it will be different . and will look good pulling a FED around !!! Here is a pix of the truck as is , now .
That F-5 looks a zillion times better than my F-6. Mine is missing the front drums and bearings so I am currently trying to convert it into a pick-up. Your truck looks too nice to cut up in my worthless opinion but I guess it's your cash not mine.
I had it up for sale for 3500 and no bites , so we are going to build it and make it cool , it's got a new steering col. and a 351 windsor motor in it . I'm using the cab and running gear , big wheels, dually rear end and all .
i think u should keep it the way it it is, build a flatbed nd shit to haul the FED on the back. like don prudom's supersnake...keep it traditional and clean
i like the drawing , of course ive been known to dig weird things anyhow , i vote for an art deco type wrecker boom with a curve to it and holes cut in it like on a frame ,
We have acess to a 1940's boom !!! Yes that would be Kool too !!! I know we are not going to chop the roof ,for sure !!! Everything else will be figured out along the way . No more HA/GR cars , sorry finishing up a late 60's early 70's FED now .
please don't remove the fenders, fat fendered cars look goofy without the fenders (the majority of the time)
I say keep the fenders. I agree with the flat bed idea, I think it would be kinda nifty lowered but hide that huuge Z in the frame.
Hate to see a you start your project with such a nice truck. I have no problem with your plans, and like the idea of a wrecker boom. Just hope you reconsider and find another truck to start with. I know where there are a couple of F5 trucks here in Illinois that would work for you.
Looks cool. Do whatever you want to do, it's your truck! It's funny how people wet their pants when someone "cuts up" a '32 Ford to chop and channel it, but get all pissy about cutting up an old truck that no one wanted to buy! WTF????
Well I started laying out the frame design today . Wow , looks like about a 22" Z in the back . Damm 36" tall tires !!!
Here's a vote for keeping that truck stock height, stock frame, full fendered, and fitted with a vintage Holmes wrecker bed and boom. Maybe letter it for the Ford dealer that was in your home town in 1950, complete with old time phone number. I have Henrietta the '38 Ford pickup (avatar photo) lettered as a shop truck for Drake Motor Co., Ford dealer here from 1928-1956, phone 13 (actual phone number in the '30s and '40s.).
