So today I go to check out a blown big block powered Nash Metro expecting the usual overpowered midget car. What I found was a metro that had been stretched 36" and either modeled after the Hot Wheels Metrorail collector die cast car, or the Hot Wheels company modeled their little die cast after this car.
The car is well built, although showing some age, owner claims it drives, turns and stops and lights the tires at will. The metro has wheelie bars, a parachute, full roll cage, dana 60 rear, really narrowed with coil overs and 4 link. the front suspension is a combination of coil overs with rack and pinion. The car has monster Baer 4 wheel disc brakes with drilled and vented rotors.
The owner says he got the Metro in a trade and there are 3 others like it {I suppose he means stretched} in the country......my question? Does any of this sound familiar to anyone on the HAMB? The car was built in Michigan.
I don`t have pics yet, but for those interested "Google" hot wheels metrorail and you will see the die cast version. I am trying to work a trade for one of my cars so any info will be really helpful to me, thanx, Bob Myers.

A bright blue one used to do the Des Moines GG back in the late '90's.

Worked on a black one years ago that was in El Polacko's shop... Wasn't stretched to heavily, but pro streeted with cage and all that stuff. Was originally out of Mn.

They look silly stretched. I'd rather see it done on a longer frame, like the Fiats were, if you want the long wheelbase drag look.

  6. Oh that is soooo old fashioned. Who would want one done they way they used to do it.

There was one at the good guys here in town just after the Millenium rollover. I think it was orange but I would have to ask someone to be sure.

I'm with you C.S think the Fiat or Crosley look would be cool on a metro. But they have been telling me that i'm old and what I like is totally out of style.

Here is a pic of the Metro in the guys garage. I am going to make an even trade for my chopped 48 sedan next week. He wants my 48, I will getting something unique and weird. Normally, when I see a pro street Metro I think to myself, what a waste, but the stretch changes the look and I can`t resist the idea of getting into the throttle of that big block. What do you think?

Woody Cordell has one here in Arkansas that he built. It has a hugh cubic inch blown alchol hemi and he stretched it years ago after getting into dragstrip wall. It has always been street driven and so has the fuel tank trailer that it requires on any but the shortest runs. Woody hasn't had it out in quite a while but I remember the impression it made back when it used to go to "Cruisen the Coast."

I kind of like your 48 better.. But the Nash could be cool, maybe ditch the lame flames, change up the rolling stock (maybe old halibrands and cheater slicks), 60's-70's style interior, and maybe give it 70's Drag car paint job, could be kinda cool then..

I've never seen a Metro I would want, stock or otherwise.

The black one from MN (mentioned in "need louvers ?" post) was done really well, though, and looked about as right as you could have made it.

A hair cut to make it look more like the die cast and a good paint job and that would be sweet. But if you're not up for all that work then walk away before you do something you'll regret

Oof... I gotta say, having a car you can drive to the store, pick the kids up from school in, drive across the country to the HAMB drags, etc. etc. etc. is a whole lot more fun than owning a circus attraction. And a dated-looking one at that.

I like and drive vintage cars for the fun of it... Shock Value and "Wow" factor doesn't really apply, but that's just me.

I'm going to have to agree with the crowd that I would not make this trade. The sedan looks like a nice car, the Metro has obviously had a lot of time and money invested in it, but it's basically worthless as a car. It'll never have any resale value other than parts (who else would ever want it) and it doesn't look even close to streetable. Plus, it's 100% "Pro street dare to be different 1992".

Most well built rods, even if they are dated or tacky, can be brought back with some updating and mods. But there is really nothing you can do to that car to change it. It's a white elephant and a trade would be a huge mistake.

Yes, If I remember correctly, part of what made it look so nice is that not only was it stretched a bit, but it was widened proportionately as well. Neither was to an extreme.

Depending on what it looks like underneath, I might do a trade like that.

But I'd cut if off at the windshield, and start over...
